NHL Draft 2007
The draft is being held June 22-23, 2007
Nationwide Arena, Columbus, OH
I believe it's on TSN and a draft preview on TSN thursday as well.
I found a couple scouting reports on some prospects and I guess we can put some draft talk in here.
On a Potentially deep draft: http://flyers.nhl.com/team/app?articlei ... rvice=page
That article gives a bunch of scouting reports on prospects..I believe it was written before the prospects combine.
Couture: 2007 Team: Ottawa (OHL)
Position: Center
Shoots: Left
Height: 6

I'd actually be surprised since we have depth at D for once and a shortage of offense.

Id only be cool with that if Ellerby fell to #13.
My preference would be
1.) Backlund
2.) Hamill
3.) Sweatt
4.) Esposito

I see a move JFJ might be doing....#13 and Carlo for #5 where he'll draft Karl Alzner. I've seen this kid play many many times, and come away thinking he might be the next Robyn Regehr type of stay at home defenceman. Something the Leafs desparately need. I'm not thrilled about dealing Carlo, but he'll become a top 2 d-man in WASH.

Why would JFJ trade up to draft a player at a position where this team is actually strong at? If anything he would be smart to trade up for a forward of the likes of Gagner or Cherapanov. Trading Carlo + our pick for a defencemen isnt smart in my opinion. Theres no gurantee Alzner even becomes better then Carlo in the future so I dont like the risk.
Id be cool with trading Carlo plus our pick if we were trading up for Gagner.

I kind of wouldn't. The only guys I'd trade up for are Alzner, Cherapanov and Esposito. Gagner is another Kyle Wellwood clone and we don't need 2 undersized, PIM challenged centres. Wellwood amassed 0 PIM this year....is that a good thing? No.....it shows he's not agressive IMO, or a really soft player. Datsyuk won the Lady Byng and he had 20 PIM.

Wellwood is not even close to the prospect that Ganger is when they both were being drafted. Gagner is the better skater, plays with more intensity and definitely has the better tools to score goals on the next level. I dunno about you, but id love to have a Pavel Datsyuk like player on this leafs team.
regardless if you like Gagner or not, the point is it doesnt make much sense to trade away a already proven/young/talented defencemen +our #13 pick just to move up to draft a player that most scouts dont even think has #1 defencemen upside. If were going to move up, it should be a forward we take. White, Coliacovo, Kronwall, Strallman we have more then enough young skilled blueliners, what this team needs is some forwarf prospects.

i saw that, the 2nd deke was absolutely nasty....
Zach Hamil in a Leaf jersey would put a smile on my face
EDIT: Spelling
We could certainly use him in shootouts
