That's what I'm thinking. Except we don't care about what they think. We are the ones going to the games.

Why? Do you think 25 good Nix games following the worst decade of team management in pro sports history allows you to give up that name?

OK...this idea blows. I cant stand names like that.

To bad Sac has Kings. That would have made the most sense to me (As in Kingsboro) if they are hell bent on ditching Nets.

Anyone know some of the college nicknames for Brooklyn teams?

It is hard to imagine a company trying to build a large global brand with a worldwide following naming the team after one specific geographical location. I'm calling this one false until I hear otherwise.
Walk away from this ASAP.

Knights would be fine with me. Its at least cooler than Nyers!

As for the global comment made by nfbq...its a good point. But...what do you do name wise to make it a worldwide brand? I cant think of a cool name that ties into that theme...so perhaps its best not to give a local name is the point. DOesnt need international flavor...just come up with something that sounds cool....

No matter what they change the name to, it will be a huge adjustment period.

I personally think it will be New York Nets. As far as global branding, "New York" is 100x more famous than "Brooklyn". You go anywhere in the world and say "New York" and everyone will know what city you are talking to. And then, "Nets". It's simple, related to the sport of basketball, and is not localized/regionalized. Seems like an easy choice to me.

New York Knights would be ok.

BTW, all the talk about the team name, but what about the team colors? Brooklyn's official "colors" are blue and gold...would the team make that switch? Blue/Gold IMO would be a better merchandise seller than just traditional red (one we have now).

That's what they were thinking when they gave the team that crappy name.

Brooklyn New Yorkers is awesome.

It will be a worldwide brand.

New Yorkers is a stupid ass name and I think a vast majority of actual New Yorkers would agree.

It's Bush League.

haha...bush league. The New Yorkers sounds like a name some 12 year old boy would come up with for his new franchise in NBA 2K11, that's based upstate lol.

How is "UNITED" as a team name the same as NEW YORKERS? And you mispoke. What you meant to say was largest global team brand. Not largest BRAND in sports.

If we do have to change names, make it something that people will automatically link to the team. When you say Yankees, Red Sox, Lakers, Dodgers, Celtics etc EVERYONE knows who you're referring to, you say New Yorkers and people will think about the peole that live in NYC.. besides it just sounds incredibly stupid.
