It the trades are:

Hedo/Jrich for Carter/Gortat

and

Arenas for Lewis

Then the only team I like the trade for is Phoenix. They manage to move Hedo's useless corpse and his horrible contract for a big expiring in Carter and a serviceable center in Gortat. Losing JRich doesn't really mean much in the grandscheme of things considering Phoenix isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Washington just replaces one horrendous contract with another horrendous contract. It does help clear up some of their guard overlap though.

The Magic lose one horrendous contract (Lewis) and bring in 2 others (Arenas, Hedo). The Magic are going to be in real danger of losing Howard after this experiment explodes in their face which it will. They don't stand a chance against Boston and Miami in the East.

Taking back Hedo's and Arenas contract ? I fail to see how it makes them better. They need a playmaker first and foremost before anything..

Phoenix might actually be better with:

Nash/Carter/Hill/Warrick/Gortat

and Dragic/Childress/Dudley/Frye/Lopez off the bench. They won't get crushed on the glass as badly and might actually have some defensive paint presence now.

On the one hand, this all but assures Dwight Howard leaves Orlando in 2 years. So that's good.

On the other hand, he may go somewhere like Chicago and make them dominant. So that's bad.

Not sure how I feel about all this. Its like the Cavs situation... people kept rooting for Cleveland to get stuck in 2nd gear... and when it happened, LeBron went and formed the most stacked team of all time. They probably regret that now and wish Cleveland had been a little better so he would've stayed.

I'd rather Dwight and Orlando stay just good and flexible enough that he stays there, than he go team up with guys in Chicago or New York or something.

I'm guessing J-Rich wouldn't get bench duties, so the starting backcourt would be Arenas-Rich-Hedo.

Everyone knew Orlando was gonna do something, Carter just doesn't have the aggressive "I'm taking over" mentality that they lacked. Arenas has it.. Or had it.. Arenas might rejuvenate his career in Orlando, so we'll see

I really question if adding Hedo, Richardson, and Arenas is a good idea. All the guys need the ball to be effective, which limits Howard's post progress. He has really made significant steps to be the total package. I am not sure if those three players would be ok being stand still shooters at this point of their careers. I also wonder who this big is going to be that would have to be added from Washington.

Richardson doesn't need the ball to be effective, actually at this point of his career he may be better off-the-ball.

Howard surrounded by shooters is what they have now, it isn't working and it will never work. Howard isn't Hakeem and 2010 isn't the mid-90s. Orlando lacks enough shot-creation in their perimeter/supporting cast to contend for a title. They need to do something.

Now, if an Arenas+Richardson+Hedo backcourt will do it? I doubt it, I'd take it over their current situation in the backcourt. They need to find someone to replace Gortat/Lewis though. Howard+Bass+Anderson+a bit of Hedo is not enough. They need another rotational big.
