Re: Woj: Magic, Wiz talking - Arenas to ORL? (PHX involved? P10)
Not surprised to see a bunch of Heat fans in this thread.
As a Magic fan, this trade is terrible for us if the Shard for Arenas swap doesn't happen. We really overpaid for J-Rich and Hedo (or rather, we vastly overvalued Carter's near-expiring and Gortat). On the other hand, Richardson and Hedo are proven players in the Playoffs, something we really lacked last year *coughWincecough*. Richardson is definitely a better fit in our offense than Carter was, and hopefully Hedo gets more motivation playing on the team he performed best with.
Arenas has been disappointing this year, but from what I've heard from numerous Wizards fans, he's been wanting a trade and has been coasting for a good chunk of the season. We've seen what a healthy Arenas can do (a proven #1 option), let's hope it works out.
This is definitely a risky move by Otis Smith. If everything works out, we have a great offense and hopefully we win the championship. Worst case scenario.... I don't want to think about that.

We've been among the league leaders in salaries since Sarver got here. We don't save any money in this trade. There's a difference between being cheap and incompetent. You have no idea what you are talking about.
Pietrus has a team option for $5.3 mill. We also got 3million back from ORL. We saved money, acquired a pick and a big.
Player option.
Pietrus has 2 years/10 million left. Gortat 4 years/28 million. Hedo 4/40. Do the math. This is basically a wash salary wise.

So if Dwight gets in foul trouble....who comes off the bench for him?

Suns management is so incompetent. I hate being a fan of this team.

Gil is going to drop 40 for the next 4-5 years every time he plays the Wizards.
Can't believe they settled for Rashard Lewis.

It's awful on the surface but if we can flip Carter for an Iguodala type player then I like it a lot. Not sure if that's possible though.

Ball.
Anyway how does this effect jameer nelson ? Should I try to trade him away in my fantasy league ? Is he going to come off the bench ? Maybe he will get traded on a separate deal ?

Well, we all returned to step one.
Pietrus would probably pick up the option so it makes his deal a two year deal.
VC has a partially guaranteed salary for next year (somewhere between 2-4 million, can't remember).
Now we basically took Pietrus' contract, which is smaller than Barbosa's, and replace JRich's with VC's. Back to step one. No big changes in terms of our salary this year, but allowed way more flexibility than what we had after Turk arrive.
Of course, it would have made even more sense if we hadn't traded anyone during the summer in the first place.

Re: Woj: Magic, Wiz talking - Arenas to ORL? (PHX involved? P10)
Just learned of this trade and WOW...Don't know what to say.
I am not a Hedo hater and for years thought he would do well in the Suns system. I was wrong. Getting rid of Hedo's contract is a huge plus for the Suns.
J-Rich has been a great player for us and I will miss him greatly, however he seems more focused on getting his numbers then winning (contract year) and the Suns would not have resigned him anyways so this was a good move.
Clark is garbage and a thug and I'm happy the Suns gave up on him.
Suns medical staff does wonders and if they can fix Antonio Mcdyess's knees, bring Amare back from microfracture to greatness, have Grant Hill playing out of his mind at age 38, ect ect.....they can easily work wonders for Vince Carter's health. I'm not a huge VC fan but I'm intrigued nonetheless about how he will fit in with Nash distributing.
Suns have always liked Gortat and now we have him. What a great pickup. We needed more size and got it. He is mobile, defensive minded, and has good hands. I anticipate he will do very well in the pick and roll with Nash. He also rebounds well which is something we have been missing.
Pietrus is another wing player which I'm not thrilled about, HOWEVER, he is better than Childress and a good shooter. I think the Suns are not done trading as we still have too many wings but this pickup is an upgrade at the wing position.
Overall, Suns upgraded as Hedo has stunk and his contract is horrific. Gortat is a HUGE pickup. Pietrus is an upgrade at wing. VC is a slight downgrade at SG but if the Suns medical staff can work their magic and he finds chemistry with Nash, we could see a decent resurgence. Remember that the Suns were not going to resign Richardson anyways so this works well and saves us a lot of money.
If we also get some picks then even better. I think we made out like bandits. Orlando is getting a good player in J-Rich, but will REGRET picking up Hedo and giving up Gortat. Bass is not physical enough to back up Dwight.
I'm starting to really get excited here as a Suns fan. Maybe our front office isn't as inept as we all thought.

Re: Woj: Magic, Wiz talking - Arenas to ORL? (PHX involved? P10)
I'm really not sure how I feel about this.
Getting Gilbert for Shard isn't bad at all, because Arenas is still putting up 17.5 and 5.5 despite the fact that by most people's accounts he is playing passively. Shard had become lost in Orlando, and I think this move may be worth the risk. The extra year on pretty similar contracts could be a killer as far as Dwight goes. Pretty big risk.
The Phoenix one....meh. Jason Richardson may do well in Orlando because he's shown he can thrive in an offense without dominating the ball, which makes him a better fit than VC. Hedo? Ugh. Maybe returning to Florida will be the shot in the arm he needs, but he's the part I really worry about. Clark seems like he has a lot of untapped potential, but whether or not playing for SVG will bring that out of him I don't know. He's on a rookie deal though so I guess it's not a huge risk.
