Maybe Arenas will draw attention in a way that allows Hedo to get the looks he likes, but I am kind of thinking like HowardMass here in that I think he is declining and will just be average.

JRich will be good though. I do like that part of it.

I don't believe Hedo is our saviour but as Chris Boushard just said on ESPN News "Hedo has not been the same since the trade but neither have the Magic.

Chris Boushard is an idiot. The Magic won just as many games with out Hedo as they did with him last year. They went up against a hot Boston team who took the Lakers to 7 games and almost won the whole damn thing. Does he really believe the Magic would have beaten the Celtics if Hedo was on our team?

Is there any doubt that Hedo was better for this team than VC? If VC or Shard had shown up for just one or two games against Boston we would have been playing the Lakers. I also think Chris is one of the best when it comes to the NBA.

Comin from a Suns fan... You guys will love J-Rich. He can explode at any moment and has shown signs of leadership and greatness many times for the two years that he was with us. He's a consistent shooter and is absolutely deadly from long range when he gets on fire. He's got insane jumping ability as well. Congratulations guys and good luck.

First you get rid of Vince Carter who no team could win a championship with, and you replace him with an even better version of him in J-Rich.

Now you get Hedo back who should revert back to his old self.

And Arenas will be more of a star than Carter was for the Magic.

I don't expect Arenas numbers to go up. This is a much different team where he doesn't have to do as much. There are many scorers here. Same for JRich. But, the team will be more even across the board with more people to pick up the slack when others are having off nights. Some nights, JRich, other nights Arenas or Meer or Hedo or Bass or Reddick or you pick em.

Overall I don't like what's going on. Lewis for Arenas would be fine with me, it's a risky move since no one knows what Arenas has left in his tank and how good he'll fit with the team, but considering Lewis' limited impact things can hardly get worse. The Phoenix deal doesn't look good to me though. It would have been okay if it was just Carter / Pietrus for Richardson / Turkoglu, but with Gortat involved it looks somewhat one sided and gives us serious trouble at the backup C position. The question now is, if we can turn one of our three backup PGs into as decent big man.

BadMofoPimp wrote:DONE DEAL

ESPN, CBSSports.com, and Yahoo! Sports have all confirmed the deal.

Here’s how it breaks down:
Orlando

Orlando wants to win now. Not for the next few years, not down the line, growing together like a bunch of young saplings. Now. Otis Smith has acquired a dynamic scorer and playmaker in Gilbert Arenas who is not shooting well this year (39%) but has a chance to get some space now that he’s in Orlando. They acquired a power driving dunk artist with prolific three-point range in Jason Richardson, Hedo Turkoglu who is now old and not nearly the player he was two years ago, a first-round draft pick and Earl Clark, who will never see the floor, ever.

Gilbert Arenas has shown flashes of his scoring ability that made him so prolific four seasons ago. He managed to work reasonably well off-ball in Washington, and in Orlando will be granted license to run the offense. Jameer Nelson can work off-ball in conjunction with Arenas. How he’ll work with Dwight Howard will be a significant issue to keep an eye on. Arenas has never worked with a player like Howard before, and he’ll have to maintain the “it’s his team” attitude he had with Wall.

Richardson is the big win in this trade for Orlando. He’s averaging 19 points on 42% three-point shooting and he’ll get just as many open looks in Orlando. The question will be if he can play the kind of defense Stan Van Gundy will need him to and how he’ll fit in with the rotation. But Richardson is a clutch performer who has a history with Arenas in Golden State and should be thrilled to be going to a contender again.

Hedo Turkoglu is a no-lose option for the Magic. If he’s terrible, the team is deep enough not to worry about it. If he’s able to recapture anything close to what they had two years ago, they’ve got another great player to go to. His contract is long. So was Rashard Lewis’. And as we’ve seen today, no contract is unmovable.

Phoenix:

The future is later. Despite Steve Nash still being Steve Nash, the Suns have moved towards the future. Vince Carter is an expiring contract, they acquired a first round pick to build with, and ditched Hedo Turkoglu’s contract. They’re obviously moving towards the future. You have to wonder if this is a capitulation by Robert Sarver to move towards saving money. Vince Carter may experience a resurgence in Phoenix as so many players have with their training staff. But in the end, he’s just not a very good player anymore and not a player you can depend on in key situations. Losing Turkoglu at least clears up their frontcourt rotation and will allow Hakim Warrick more minutes. Phoenix looks towards the future.
Washington:

The Arenas-Butler-Jamison era is finally washed away completely. Agent Zero is over. Rashard Lewis is a marginal player at this point with a massive contract, but now the team is John Wall‘s, 100%. The Gilbert Arenas era is through. They’re a bad team and they just got worse. But they do save a slight bit of money and can try and take a new approach in order to move towards the Wall-led future. It was over before it started for the Arenas Show in Washington. You’ve got to move forward eventually. They chose now.

If Phoenix were smart, they could of made it a 3 way and gotten the PF they direly needed from Houston for Gortat.

If these trades go down, how would you guys feel about a Carl Landry for Nelson trade? Landry is the perfect PF off the bench, and the Kings are far enough under the cap to absorb Nelson without having to add a filler. Or do you think Nelson will be fine coming off the bench?

Typo. We're sending it to PHX.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Still think Lewis has plenty left in the tank. He's never been a player whose scoring ability is predicated on his athleticism. If Washington actually plays him to his talents, I think he'll see a rebirth in his scoring average. The fact of the matter is, Shard had a post game second to none of any SF in this league, and the Magic hardly ever utilized it, instead making his solely a spot of three point specialist.

Wow...

I love the Shard for Arenas deal. We all know Shard is done, so getting rid of his albatross contract was a huge plus. In return, we receive another bad contract, but at least Gil is still productive. He's going to get you 20 points a game, chucking be damned.

As for the PHX trade, eh, I dunno. I'm still on the fence about this one. J-Rich is an upgrade over Vince, but taking on Hedo's contract for Gortat & Pietrus (+ the first rounder) is where I become skeptical. Jared Dudley should've been included at that price.

Overall, our talent level has definitely increased. But with our backcourt looking the way it is, I sure hope Otis isn't done.

Nelson/Arenas/J-Rich or Arenas/J-Rich/Hedo? I'm sure Stan will stick with Jameer until he is either benched or traded. You have to sustain some type of continuity, otherwise his morale/production is gonna flat out plummet.

Interesting, to say the least.

I LIKE these deals, if not for just the excitement of making deals. I'm going to be so hyped on Tuesday at the Amway!

I think Lewis will play well for Washington. He just wasn't the same without Hedo here.

As long as we're keeping Jameer and Arenas or Turk comes off the bench, I am sooooooo stoked. I don't see any negatives at this point. Today is a great rainy day Magic fans! Someone earlier said it was a great FL rainy day for trades. They were spot on.

Well, our offense should be better. Still strong at shooting but more versatile overall.

Our defense is going to be awful. Don't even try to argue it.

Still don't get people here.

How is the PHX trade completely one sided in favor of Phoenix?

Marcin has been terrible this season, anyone can tell. Malik Allen can't be any worse.
