I suspect Arenas will stop getting blackballed (ie getting the Iverson treatment) in Orlando.

This trade takes that unpleasant situation away from this team.

Seriously ... two and a half seasons of a guy who is already on serious decline. But high SF/PF pick and roll with Blatche right?
It's Ernie's two second round picks! Whooo you go Ernie, keep building that team! Your first one couldn't win a second round playoff game but please continue to have control.

Mr. Grundle wrote:My thoughts on the trade are......who cares? There's some real sentimentals around here. While its true Gil made the Wiz relevant again, the current Gil is not the same player that made that happen. The fun-loving, super fast and strong, sniper-clutch-shooting, get-in-the-paint-and-to-the-line-at-will Gil is long gone. The current Gil is old, slow, can't shoot, and can't buy a call. But worst of all, he's bitter. He doesn't want to be here anymore. Doesn't wanna play with these young kids. Doesn't want to be a mentor to John Wall.
So let him go. Who cares if we get a worse player in return. We are one of the 3 worst teams in the NBA WITH Gil. We don't get that much worse with Shart....it's impossible. We trade a horrible contract for an equally horrible contract less a year. We get another soft, lazy, jumpshooting big...like we can't deal with that for two more years.
Seriously, who cares. We don't get much better or worse with the deal.
The John Wall era couldn't officially begin until the Gil era ended. This was the only way to make that happen.
Well said. I'm ranting more on our team NOT improving than any misguided hope that Gil becomes an all-star again. Just sick and tired of looking at the Wiz, Redskins, and O's/Nats and seeing NO HOPE of rooting for a winner in the major sports leagues for a bare minimum of 3-4 more years.

He hasn't played well since he's been off the juice, the sauce, whatever you want to call it. His game has declined since then. There's no getting around that.

Rashard Lewis can't even dribble. Who is running this PNR?

You're what's wrong with this world: rooting for your team's failure just so you can say you're right.

All Wiz related thoughts aside, what the hell is Orlando doing? Are they going to trade Jameer now too? With Richardson, Arenas and Nelson, who is coming off the bench and how much of a pain in the @ss are they going to be?

Operation getting Rashard Lewis out of town is the #1 priority for me. The Bucks make the most sense as their fans hate Maggette as much as I hate Lewis. Only problem is that Gooden has to be in any deal for the Bucks, and he's signed for 4 more years after this one.

I'm whats wrong with this world....? Really?
Also, how am I rooting for anyone's failure any different than anyone else who has been harping on how bad Gilbert has sucked for the past 2+ years? I'm rooting for success like the rest, you guys are just on the other end this time. Now you all can be consistently wrong about this team, and root for the real Loser/Cancer some claimed Arenas to be.

Definitely...Are you serious? Rashard will become a starter here and considering the lack of front court depth here and the shots he'll get, its likely he'll have Arenas type production as a Wizard...
Rashard's biggest strength is if he plays SF he a very good post player. Him in Washington he might actually become a top post option again. Was never going to happen with the Magic.

Also, not happy if it's just Lewis coming back, but it was time to get rid of Gilbert. He was never going to get it going again on a rebuilding team. This could be great for him. It doesn't help with Wizards much, but having a clearly unhappy Arenas on the team surely wasn't going to help much, either. But here's hoping there are picks coming back, at least.

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
Bottom line, once they decided on dumping the Big Three, we all realized our roster would be a joke for years to come. Nothing has changed. We basically took the first offer for Arenas we could find, and while we can quibble with that, the real question is whether we have any faith that EG is going to right the ship. I've given him the benefit of doubt before, but I think my days of doing that are over. I really expect to see a GM change at years' end if not earlier.

Yeah, that's going to be interesting. They've been starting Bass at PF of late, but with Gortat gone that probably makes Bass their backup center. Are they going to play Hedo at PF? That's what caused him to fail in Phoenix.
Howard/Bass
Hedo/Anderson
JRich/QRich
Arenas/Redick
Nelson/JWill
I'm not feeling that. Maybe they get away with it most nights in the regular season but it's not going to hold up in the playoffs against Boston's size and it also makes it easier for Miami to match up with them. Nah, they gotta do something else.
They could trade Nelson as you mentioned, but they'd be looking for a PF so I'm not sure what value they will find in trying to trade small-for-big.
Maybe Jameer to Sacto for Udrih and one of their young bigs? Or to Charlotte for Diaw?

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
This is genuinely depressing. Gil may not be "Gil" anymore, but he is the most incandescent player I've ever seen in a Wizards/Bullets uni. It's a damn shame that injuries and the stupid, STUPID guns incident stole this guy from us. The miserable, sniping, no-call-getting, non-smiling ground-bound guy we have now is not Gil... but damn, this is how it has to end?

Re: Official Trade Thread XIV
Could we please acquire:
a SG who plays exclusively SG & defends other SG's well.
a SF who plays exclusively SF & defends other SF's well.
a PF who plays exclusively PF & defends other PF's well.
a Center who plays exclusively C & defends otherC's well.
Load the bench with tweeners who can play multiple positions if you want, but main players should be SOLID at their position. We have a whole team full of guys who play crap man-to-man defense, unable to defend the pick-and-roll, and are not physical. (Hopefully Wall, Booker, & Seraphin are the 1st steps in that direction - although Booker seems pretty set at tweener...)
Blatche and Hinrich should be used as trade chips to acquire one or two of these. McGee and Wall are the only guys on our team with any kind of high ceiling who play an actual legit position...

Wall is a legit PG who will defend the PG position well once he gets more experience.
Young is a legit SG who defends the SG position well
Howard is a legit SF who defends the SF position well
Blatche is a legit PF who defends the PF well when he is motivated.
McGee... um... has a ways to go yet.

I'll give you Young based on early returns this year. Looks like he will be legit.
Howard is coming off a knee injury - jury definately out.
Blatche is an unispired POS. Can't stand to watch him play. The guy looks like he could care less.
McGee - freakish talent with NO CLUE.
Our biggest needs (as always) are a PF & C who play defense & rebound.
