I have to find an online stream of Decoded though, it started at 2:00 AM and I was not staying up for that with work at 8.

It (Decoded) normally airs at 10 PM EST on Thursdays. Yeah, I really enjoyed the 8PM Episode of Ancient Alients. The 9PM Episode was good too, but the whole historical stuff in the 8PM was fun to watch.

60 Years ago the Bridge above would've been in a SciFi Novel.

20 Years ago in a cheap SciFi Movie.

10 Years ago on the Drawing Board for somewhere in the distant future.

Now? It's a reality almost or at completion in Abu Dhabi (sp?).

I loooooooooooooooooooove progress! :D

Magnetic North Pole Shifts, Forces Runway Closures at Florida Airport
By Jeremy A. Kaplan

The planet's northern magnetic pole is drifting slowly but steadily towards Russia -- and it's throwing off planes in Florida.

Tampa International Airport was forced to readjust its runways Thursday to account for the movement of the Earth's magnetic fields, information that pilots rely upon to navigate planes. Thanks to the fluctuations in the force, the airport has closed its primary runway until Jan. 13 to change taxiway signs to account for the shift, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The poles are generated by movements within the Earth's inner and outer cores, though the exact process isn't exactly understood. They're also constantly in flux, moving a few degrees every year, but the changes are almost never of such a magnitude that runways require adjusting, said Paul Takemoto, a spokesman for the FAA.

The magnetic fields vary from place to place. Adjustments are needed now at airports in Tampa, but they aren't immediately required at all airports across the country.

So just how often is something like this necessary? "It happens so infrequently that they wouldn't venture a guess," Takemoto told FoxNews.com. "In fact, you're the first journalist to ever ask me about it."

Takemoto was quick to point out that the change, which also was required at Tampa's smaller Peter O. Knight airport, will have no effect on passenger safety.

"You want to be absolutely precise in your compass heading," he pointed out. "To make sure the precision is there that we need, you have to make these changes."

Kathleen Bergen, another spokeswoman for the FAA, explained that runway designations and charting rely upon geomagnetic information. "Aviation is charted using latitude and longitude and the magnetic poles," she told FoxNews.com.

The busiest runway at Tampa International will be re-designated 19R/1L on aviation charts. It had been 18R/36L, indicating its alignment along the 180-degree approach from the north and the 360-degree approach from the south, explained an article in the Tampa Tribune detailing the changes. Later this month, the airport's east parallel runway and the seldom used east-west runway will be closed to change signs reflecting their new designations as well.

"The Earth's poles are changing constantly, and when they change more than three degrees, that can affect runway numbering," Bergen said.

While rejiggering the runways is a very extreme event, the fields are constantly in flux and constantly being remapped, explained Lorne McKee, a scientist with the geomagnetism division of Natural Resources Canada.

"Since the fields change relatively slowly, they're marked out at 10 degree increments," he explained. The field has swung from approximately 10 degrees east in the late 16th century to 25 degrees west in the early 19th century -- before returning to a current value of about 3 degrees west.

It wasn't immediately clear when or even if changes would be required at other airports. And even the rate of change is inconsistent, McKee said, noting that it's changing much more quickly at the poles themselves.

Beyond just sliding around the planet, the magnetic north and south poles have been known to completely flip as well; these reversals, recorded in the magnetism of ancient rocks, are unpredictable. The last one was 780,000 years ago. Are we overdue for another? No one knows.

TBILISI, Georgia – A cow in Georgia has given birth to a two-headed calf.

Farmer Irakli Dzhgarkava, shown with the calf on Imedi television, says the cow is refusing to allow her strange offspring to suckle, so they are giving it milk from a bottle.

He says the calf eats with both heads.

Friday's television report says people have been coming to the village of Martvili to see the grayish-brown calf since it was born Jan. 2.

The village is located in western Georgia, about 280 kilometers (170 miles) from the capital, Tbilisi.

Mass Animal Deaths a Worldwide Phenomenon, With New Deaths in Sweden

Around 100 birds were found lying dead on a snow-covered street in southern Sweden’s Falkoping, after a string of unexplained animal deaths hit the U.S. and New Zealand, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported Wednesday.

Local veterinarian Robert ter Horst speculated that the birds had fallen from the sky after being frightened by fireworks set off late Tuesday.

However, the cause of the jackdaws' deaths was disputed after a truck driver claimed he was responsible.

Christer Olofosson, a rescue services worker, said the truck driver claimed he saw about 70 live birds on the road Tuesday, adding, "he ran over the lot of them and did not think it was a big deal, but realized today [Wednesday] that it attracted attention, not only in the Swedish media, but also abroad."

Police told the newspaper the majority of the jackdaws involved were not "physically damaged," which would contradicted the truck driver's account of events.

Horst, who sent the dead birds to Sweden's National Veterinary Institute for analysis, said the driver's theory was "possible," but further examination of the birds was needed before a cause of death could be established.

The Falkoping incident came after a string of unexplained animal deaths in the U.S. and New Zealand.

Some 500 dead birds were found next to a highway northwest of Baton Rouge, La., Monday, littering a quarter-mile stretch of road. The birds were sent to laboratories for testing, and no cause of death was immediately known.

The carcasses included starlings and blackbirds, the latter the same as the nearly 5,000 birds that plunged to the ground in Beebe, Ark., on New Year's Eve.

The mysterious deaths of 100,000 drum fish about 125 miles away were thought to be unrelated.
Similarly, no explanation was reached on the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand, where vacationers were shocked when hundreds of dead fish washed ashore

FACT CHECK: Mass bird, fish deaths occur regularly

By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer
Fri Jan 7, 11:08 am ET

WASHINGTON – First, the blackbirds fell out of the sky on New Year's Eve in Arkansas. In recent days, wildlife have mysteriously died in big numbers: 2 million fish in the Chesapeake Bay, 150 tons of red tilapia in Vietnam, 40,000 crabs in Britain and other places across the world. Blogs connected the deadly dots, joking about the "aflockalypse" while others saw real signs of something sinister, either biblical or environmental.

The reality, say biologists, is that these mass die-offs happen all the time and usually are unrelated.
Federal records show they happen on average every other day somewhere in North America. Usually, we don't notice them and don't try to link them to each other.

"They generally fly under the radar," said ornithologist John Wiens, chief scientist at the California research institution PRBO Conservation Science.

Since the 1970s, the U.S. Geological Survey's National Wildlife Health Center in Wisconsin has tracked mass deaths among birds, fish and other critters, said wildlife disease specialist LeAnn White. At times the sky and the streams just turn deadly. Sometimes it's disease, sometimes pollution. Other times it's just a mystery.

In the past eight months, the USGS has logged 95 mass wildlife die-offs in North America and that's probably a dramatic undercount, White said. The list includes 900 some turkey vultures that seemed to drown and starve in the Florida Keys, 4,300 ducks killed by parasites in Minnesota, 1,500 salamanders done in by a virus in Idaho, 2,000 bats that died of rabies in Texas, and the still mysterious death of 2,750 sea birds in California.

On average, 163 such events are reported to the federal government each year, according to USGS records. And there have been much larger die-offs than the 3,000 blackbirds in Arkansas. Twice in the summer of 1996, more than 100,000 ducks died of botulism in Canada.

"Depending on the species, these things don't even get reported," White said.

Weather — cold and wet weather like in Arkansas New Year's Eve when the birds fell out of the sky — is often associated with mass bird deaths, ornithologists say. Pollution, parasites and disease also cause mass deaths. Some are even blaming fireworks for the blackbird deaths.

So what's happening this time?

Blame technology, says famed Harvard biologist E.O. Wilson. With the Internet, cell phones and worldwide communications, people are noticing events, connecting the dots more.

"This instant and global communication, it's just a human instinct to read mystery and portents of dangers and wondrous things in events that are unusual," Wilson told The Associated Press on Thursday. "Not to worry, these are not portents that the world is about to come to an end."
Wilson and the others say instant communications — especially when people can whip out smart phones to take pictures of critter carcasses and then post them on the Internet — is giving a skewed view of what is happening in the environment.

The irony is that mass die-offs — usually of animals with large populations — are getting the attention while a larger but slower mass extinction of thousands of species because of human activity is ignored, Wilson said.

Ever since violence has erupted in Egypt there have been numerous sightings of UFOs over Jerusalem, particularly over the Dome of the Rock – and ancient Islamic shrine.

Israeli, British and American intelligence agencies have confirmed over two thousand UFO sightings over Jerusalem in the last ten days.

While I don't believe we're the only ones out there...I'm thinking they're Military Aircraft that these people are seeing in a hectice environment and pegging it as a UFO. Could be our current set of Military Aircraft, or future experimental ones that they forever to reveal to the public. But either way, I kinda doubt in this instance that it's UFO's in the sense that we know them.

I don't believe we're the only ones out there either...but two thousand UFO sightings in the last 10 days? Sounds a little crazy to me...but then again, you never know.

U.S. Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, said “this confirms what the U.N. and our intelligence agencies have been tracking for the last several months – there is an ongoing alien invasion occurring around the globe.”

I met Robert Gates a few years ago on a summer program and he seemed like a pretty straightforward/no-nonsense guy...but the second part of the quote doesn't sound like something he would say without being sarcastic.

There have been hundreds of thousands of UFO "sightings" since the 19060's. Heck some going back to Ancient Times.

Do you believe each and every one of them were actually UFO's? ;)

I highly doubt Aliens would be interested in some inner-Gov't fighting.

Earth-size planet candidates found in habitable zone
2011-02-03 09:44:14

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- NASA's Kepler mission has discovered its first Earth-size planet candidates and its first candidates in the habitable zone, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) said on Wednesday.

The habitable zone is a region where liquid water could exist on a planet's surface, according to the JPL.

Of the 54 new potential planets found in the habitable zone, five are near Earth-sized, while the remaining 49 candidates range from super-Earth size -- up to twice the size of Earth -- to larger than Jupiter, said the JPL, headquartered in Pasadena, Los Angeles.

That, I do not know.

So how long before we find other life forms?

^I say before 2050. :D

I mean in terms of lifeforms we did find evidence of them on some of the Moons in our Solar System as well as on Mars (fossilized for this one).

Wow. I did not know that. What was the life form from the fossil? Could you make out a shape or size?

Bacterial (the ones from our Solar System's Moons).

At least one of the Moons in our Solar System has an atmosphere.

The two videos don't match. Obviously hoax is obvious.

This will be a pretty cool mission. Wonder if there's any life in those oceans and what it would be like? Its probably doubtful we'd find any definitive proof from this mission, but may offer some evidence

http://www.redorbit.com/news/space/1991 ... index.html

Proposed Jupiter Mission Achieves Milestone

The proposed mission singles out the icy moons Europa and Ganymede as special worlds that can lead to a broader understanding of the Jovian system and of the possibility of life in our solar system and beyond. They are natural laboratories for analyzing the nature, evolution and potential habitability of icy worlds, because they are believed to present two different kinds of sub-surface oceans.

The Jupiter Europa Orbiter would characterize the relatively thin ice shell above Europa's ocean, the extent of that ocean, the materials composing its internal layers, and the way surface features such as ridges and "freckles" formed. It will also identify candidate sites for potential future landers. Instruments that might be on board could include a laser altimeter, an ice-penetrating radar, spectrometers that can obtain data in visible, infrared and ultraviolet radiation, and cameras with narrow- and wide-angle capabilities. The actual instruments to fly would be selected through a NASA competitive call for proposals.

Ganymede is thought to have a thicker ice shell, with its interior ocean sandwiched between ice above and below. ESA's Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter would investigate this different kind of internal structure. The Jupiter Ganymede Orbiter would also study the intrinsic magnetic field that makes Ganymede unique among all the solar system's known moons. This orbiter, whose instruments would also be chosen through a competitive process, could include a laser altimeter, spectrometers and cameras, plus additional fields-and-particles instruments
