I absolutely hate giving up Cain, but I'd probably do this considering we wouldn't have to move either of Rogers or Odorizzi. I'd probably be upset if this was only for two years of Greinke though, I want an extension worked out.

Watching Gomez all year will be brutal.

Looks like Betancourt is about the same type of hitter as Escobar.

I would think/hope that the Brewers would be smart enough to platoon Dickerson (career .783 OPS vs righties) with Gomez.

We'll see if this ends up being true or not. Obviously I'd love getting Greinke, but I'm also not much of a fan of giving up both Escobar and Cain. I think those two could be pretty important in trying to have a hint of a balanced offense. I know we need to give up a lot to get a guy like Greinke, and admittedly don't know much about Betancourt.

On the plus side, this move would allow us to not worry as much about trying to get pitching for Prince.

So essentially, it is:

Lawrie
Escobar
Cain
Jeffress

for

Marcum
Greinke
Betancourt
$2M

Lots of young talent going out for us, and it leaves us with two holes to fill up the middle and we lose a potential long-term closer in Jeffress. If they could somehow workout an extension with Greinke though, our 1-2 is set for a long time, and that is the hardest thing to find, a legit playoff caliber 1-2.

Would be hard to argue that a pitching rotation of: Greinke, Gallardo, Marcum, Wolf, whoever is a huge upgrade from what we had last season.

Omg, this would be awesome. Please be true. Cain is the only guy I really care about losing at this point. Jeffress has had too many issues to count on long term IMO and Escobar is getting worse anyway. Make it happen Melvin and please don't patch the remaining holes with the normal **** you patch holes with.

Ballsy move and I can get behind it even though I would've liked to see a youth movement with the pitchers while keeping our guys that are going out. EXCITING NEWS IF TRUE!1!!1

I really don't want to give up Cain, but damn, this is an "all in" move. Why not I guess. We'll suck either way in a few years.

I don't like it. We're still not good enough to beat the Phillies. Not worth it.

When you have legitimate pitching, anything is possible.

Probably not but anything can happen in the playoffs especially with our offense and possibly now our pitching.

This. If you make it into the playoffs and get hot at the right time, anything is possible. Unless he regresses a bunch, he is guaranteed to be a type A FA too if we can't extend or resign him. We need to go all in now and spend some money and pull a marlins.

multiple sources now reporting the deal
apparently its
Odorizzi, Cain, Escobar and Jeffress for Greinke, betancourt and cash

that's a big hit for you guys and imo, you're still quite clearly only the third best team in that division
