actually i think his days have been extended. he now has a true solid Center to back him up. when tired bring in Gortat, when in foul trouble bring in Gortat, when needing help inside bring in Gortat. we don't need Lopez to kill himself every night. playing Gortat some good minutes will prevent some wear and tear on Lopez and we all know he's injury prone. with that said, I expect lopez to be in a phx uniform for years to come.

Totally agree. Gortat for the second unit will be like ultra-Lou as well. Relieve some of the defensive pressure from the wings knowing Hedo isn't the center to stop the guy at the rim and help to rebound. Two things that have been totally absent from the 2nd unit, hence their suck-i-tude. Him and Robin will probably just split the minutes depending on who's playing better.

Horford/Randolph
Frye/Gortat

We'll never get Horford. He's the last person the Hawks will trade. I'd see them shedding JJ's contract before trading Horford.

Just to get a better feel for Robins overall trade value now that Gortat is in the desert, what would it take for the Warriors to trade Lopez?

Would something like Udoh/B Wright work? Just getting a feel for his value really.

The reality is that neither of these guys has proven that they can play 25+ minutes on a nightly basis, let alone have any kind of success doing so. Robin in particular has averaged ~ 15 minutes a game for his career so far and missed ~ 1/3 of his games.

My best guess is that Gortat will quickly win the starting job from Lopez ... and Nash will make him look good for 30 minutes a night for as long as he can hold up physically.

Yep. Ekpe Udoh for Robin Lopez straight up, and you have a deal,

Why would Lopez's days be numbered in Phoenix just because we brought in Gortat? He might not be the starter for our team but he'll still be a great big off the bench for us.

I'm not one for I told you so's, but this offseason I was pretty agressive on this board about going out of the box, going out and getting Gortat, and trying to convert him into a Pf. Look it up man, I got a lot of flack, but I thought with his athletic ability, he could hang with the Pfs. of the league on defense, and Nash would make him look decent on ofense.

I don't get the idea of letting Lopez start over gortat..that makes no sense. Gortat's rebounding alone should give him the nod over Lopez. He's a better finisher around the rim than Lopez as well. Lopez is the definition of a energy back up.

For real, why would we want to give up Robin now? Wasn't it obvious all year so far that we needed another big man? Why would we immediately want to become size-deficient again?

I think Lopez and Gortat will split time, with each getting about 20-25 minutes per game. Gortat will probably be the starter, but I don't think it matters that much who starts. Plus, if one them gets injured we don't have to immediately go into "oh s---" mode and start scouring the D-Leagued for any living soul over 6-9.

I thin k we're all pretty wary of trying to move people out of their natural position. I'd much rather have two solid 5s, and go get a real PF who can run - a Speights,/Wright/HIckson type guy. Which is as big part of why a lot of us lust after AR - this looks like the kind of place he'd do well
I still say playing for Mike and Nellie have screwed him somewhat - and he's cheap enough that if he is a stiff, so what?

The tick for us is to retain enough of who we are while adding enough muscle down low to play with teams like the Celts and Lakers.

Magic fan here...

Gortat is a good defender, great rebounder, okay offensively, but his hands/catching sucks. He'll need to fix that quickly if nash is going to be throwing heaters at him. And from what I've seen of Robin, Gortat should start. His best asset is that he doesn't back down and is very confident. Sometimes too confident on offense though (takes some questionable shots).

From what I've seen of both I think Gortat is going to win out as a starter once he gets acclimated to the PHX team. He seems to just have a better overall feel and understanding of the game than Robin. Considering Robin's play this year and his potential back issues....I'd be on the phone trying to deal him.

Man can you imagine if PHX had both Gortat and Amar'e???? :(
