But your taxes are much Higher. With the percentage of taxes he'd pay in Ohio in a 6 year period he'd keep more money in his pocket in Miami. Despite him physically signing for less with Miami. That was one of Miami's sales pitch to James and Bosh.

Our income taxes are higher, but LeBron would have still made more net in Cleveland than he will in Miami. First because the income tax disparity for NBA player's income taxes are balanced base on where the games are played, and second not only could Cleveland pay him a higher max deal, but he's not even making the max for Miami.

He left because he had doubts about his ability to win here and he viewed playing with Bosh and Wade as an easy path to a championship. Verdict is still out on whether he's right or not, but this had very little to do with how acceptable the city of Cleveland may or may not be.

If you factor in the income tax, and doesn't florida have a lower sales tax?

Interesting, and i have said in the past our city and state tax structure hurts our team. However, I believe that article is assuming a max deal in Miami, which as we all know Lebron didnt sign a max deal. So I dont think he will net more there. BUT, it obviously wasnt all about the money or he would still be here.

Money is the only true motivater for all atheletes and for that matter for everyone. That and

+ Whores
+ Drugs
+ Dog Fighting
+ other players moms
+ other players hot wives but really just
+ mo money
+ mo money
+ and mo money

I say have the NBA make Taxes on salaries all paid at one rate to eliminate unfair advantages at locations with lower taxes and the difference should go to the boys and girls clubs of America. 70% of those kids have no fathers. Nice statement for society in general.

Lets glorify the rich altheletes but hate on the rich company owners. If a player goes from Cleveland to Miami or from Pheonix to NY that's okay. But if someone moves their company from Ohio to China that's bad. People rich and poor; white or black are all the same. Money is a key because we were all thought we need it. Its what your parents thought you. I go to church because my parents did. I got married because my parents did. I go to work because my parents did. My kids are going to college because I did.

Thanks Gloria for raising the bar for LBJ. And to LBJ's dad whoever you are, I hope your still in Cleveland enjoying the 7 and 17 record along with the rest of us who can't get a better deal elsewhere.

whoever wrote that doesn't know what they're talking about because there is state tax in Florida once you get into millions. The conversation was brief with my accountant, since I didn't make that much, but it was there regardless.

Really, he wins when it comes to endorsements, which, given how (Please Use More Appropriate Word) his management is, I don't think theyll actually take advantage of it fully.

I agree but it's not just the taxes, it's also endorsements, a laker like shannon brown can easily make 10 mil a year off just local endorsements over there, in cleveland? Impossible.

Would Cleveland ever be an attractice free agency spot??

answer: NO, The current NBA player is breed of person or player that would never find this place attractive. CAVS would have to overpay and with all things equal with another city especially a city that has more bling , well you can just forget about it. The NBA is becoming baseball not so much with the cap and money but letting players make their own teams, and that will kill the league, it may great for lets say 5 cities but not good for the league. I hope football which is ran the best stay at least partial so every city has a chance to win. Honestly, its great for a sport when every city has a realsitic chance to win, but just LA,NY or Boston because they have the most cash or the glamour. If Im wrong I say to all fans od those citites just make it a 5 team league then and see how ya survive with that.

The answer is a hard cap. Nothing else will work as the owners cannot control themselves. Also, this may be out there, and would never happen, but any team that loses money for say, two or three consecutive years, the owner should be forced to sell. I know, not in a million years would that happen, but forcing fiscal responsibility is impossible given the players union crying collusion at the drop of a hat in all pro sports.

Money talks. Boozer proved it, when he went to the Jazz. Utah is not a prime destination for NBA players either.

Good teams aren't built solely on free agency. It depends on drafting or trading for draft picks. A bad draft can ruin a franchise, see the Trailblazers(Oden over Durant). I actually think the drafting is more important than the free agents.

The first 4 teams all have rings. Many teams picked up 1 star in the lottery and 2-3 hidden gems late in the draft or went undrafted.

Lakers-trade for Kobe draft rights
Celtics-draft Pierce, Rondo, Al Jefferson(traded Jefferson for Garnett)
Spurs-draft Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Hill, Blair(multiple rings on mostly good drafting)
Heat-draft Wade, Haslem(signed as an undrafted fa after the draft)
Magic-draft Howard, Nelson, Reddick
Thunder-draft Durant, Westbrook, Sefalosha, Green, Ibaka
Trailblazers-draft Roy, Aldridge, (but screwed up and drafted Oden over Durant later)

The biggest problem is making the wrong lottery choice, which mires franchises in lotto land for several years. Trailblazers had some good drafts, but went crazy with Oden who had an injury history over Durant. Timberwolves drafted Love, but their other lottery choices have been puzzling(Flynn and Rubio in the same draft? 4-5 pg team?).

Cavaliers have done a decent job with finding some hidden gems(Boozer, Hickson). If they could do at the same consistency as the Spurs, they would be kings.

.

I must add that Blazers also passed up on CP3 or DWill by trading away that pick, they weren't necessary drafting well, just drafting in good drafts.

disagree, but it is a debate neither of us will win. Hey, was Green Bay an attractive place for free agents, no. But until Brett Favre showed up, then Reggie White, etc.

Like it was stated earlier, the owner is committed and that is a very good start.

I think you guys have a chance at some free agents. Other then Melo who else is a FA in 2011? anybody know? You have to sell to free agents that Gilbert is not cheap and wants to build a winner.

The doubt about Lebron started the second Boozer left Cleveland for Utah. Cavs never made another big move to make that history. Cavs ever since were scrambling to make up for it. Basically trading to have a poor mans boozer in Drew Gooden for a few seasons. Made it to the finals in 07 with Gooden/Hughes reminded me of the 01 76ers with Iverson scoring most of the offense as well as Lebron doing the same there. Both lost to the Spurs,Lakers without much fight. They would have won a title with Boozer on the Cavs.

The only good players drafted in the Lebron era were Lebron,Boozer. Remember Cavs passing on Jameer Nelson for Luke Jackson. When all you had at the time were Eric Snow and Jeff Mcinnis at the point guard spot.

Comparing Cleveland to Miami is  I'm not going to kick a city when it's always been down, but Noah is right, just go on google or any search engine and the most will tell you the honest truth about your city.

Another clueless quote brought to you by the Prince of Miami's amateur marketing team where Trolling is truth in the gospel according to Maverick Carter.

weather... taxes... economy... local endorsements... market... the city itself... the team... the team legacy

literally none of those things work in our favor. only thing that we do have is, is a committed organization, which most people don't realize after the Dan Gilbert incident, and, usually players want their teams to become like the Spurs, and not actually sign with Spurs.

So, at end of the day, all we can hope for is to draft good, hope we can resign whoever we draft, and keep overpaying players for no reason...

Another day waiting for next year, wish I had a heart to be a bandwagoning idiot fan who only likes the teams that are winning...

But at least it makes me a really good gambler.

Well......The countryside is beautiful for a few weeks in the autumn, when the weather is also best...that and Edmund Fitzgerald is a great bottle of beer. Otherwise......it's a tough sell.

Overpaying is one of those shortcuts to happiness that in the long haul, generally fails. Seek value, watch EVERY detail, be patient, get lucky.

Worth note.....OKC is hardly a center of glitz and is rather lacking in terms of scenery. Having a team with a lot of FUTURE.....makes such stuff secondary.

Based on the original question...NO.

All things being equal (if all 30 teams had cap room for a star max player), Clevelend would rank pretty far down on the list.

We have a hard enough time in Chicago getting max FA's.

Players seem to want a big market, lots of night life, warm weather, and low taxes. That hurts a lot of cities in the mid-west, up north, and in the rust belt.

Having a winning team helps...as does have a great owner. Or you can try the "overpay" route....but usually means you are paying a non-max FA max money....which is always a bad move.

Toronto, Cleveland, Detroit, even Chicago.... Unless a player is being overpaid or the team is a legit contender....players are going to go to LA, Mia or even TX and NY first.
Jealousy is a sickness.......get well soon....
