Vince in the 1-2 Pick and Roll

Post#1 » by chillinlikeavillain » Sun Dec 19, 2010 8:20 am

Orlando/Vince fan here, just thought I'd give all you guys a little insight into a play that Carter and Nash could execute to perfection. This play was used sparingly by the Magic the past two seasons, but it was a very successful play. Essentially, Vince sets a screen for Nash or slips the screen, Nash gets a momentary open shot, Carter either cuts to the rim or posts up the opposing player in the event of a switch, then a 2-man game can occur, with Vince utilizing his post-scoring tough (worse case scenario is a mid-range fade, a decent Vince shot) and Nash getting a bunch of attempts to shoot off the dribble or make a creative pass (he hits the roller as well as anyone in the NBA). I really believe this play will be exciting and dynamic should the Suns implement it into the offense.

If you'd rather just see some examples, check out the following link. In it, the website describes the play and shows an example: when the Magic ran 5 straight 1-2PNRs and it won the game for them against the Cavs last year.

From what I've seen, very well. He's athletic, sets good screens and dives hard.

it should work well..phoenix is a team that actually likes running the pick and roll...orlando just likes to feed the ball to dwight and have everybody stand around waiting for the 3 pointer..thats the old stan van gundy predictable offense

Working with Nash should do wonders for him. He rolls to the rim hard and finishes strong at the rim. Catching passes is his biggest weakness - hopefully he can work on this. Magic underutilized Gortat in PnR situations.

Yeah, I always found it odd they don't run much PnR. Always thought it had a lot to do with Nelson lacking the playmaking ability.

Nash/Gortat pnr's is what Gortat has been waiting for his whole career.

Jameer is a great player, but I honestly believed he lacked the play-making abilities that was needed.

I don't know much about J-Rich and him posting up, but Vince is a very good post player, and run the 1-2 PnR with Nash on one side, and it becomes a double edged sword with teams either doubling VC in the post, or leaving Nash wide open at the 3point line.

VC is a definite step up in the PnR from Turkoglu.

I like that the Suns have so many different options, and looks, for possible PnR combinations now.

This is very interesting and makes me feel very good about the trade. This opens up so many PnR possibilities. The fact that we also got Gortat to run the PnR is very exciting. I think in the long run this trade is a huge win and our starting line-up will eventually shape into Nash/Carter/Hill/Frye/Gortat.

Nash can now choose to run the PnR with Carter or Gortat, Frye stretches the floor, and Hill takes care of the midrange game. I really can't wait to see how this team plays. I still can't believe we also got Pietrus who is a valuable wing defender and 3 point specialist along with a pick and 3 mil!? I really can't comprehend how any Suns fan could not like this trade.

Hi Vince Fan here,

I am not a basketball expert, but I can tell you this PNR play works very well.

1. Vince sets a pick for Nash,

2. Nash has an option for score or pass

3. Nash passes the ball back to Vince

4. Vince pretents to score or post

5. big man Robin or Frye rolls to rim.

6. Vince being unselfish with high IQ pass the ball for Frye or Robin for a DUNK !!!

I have seen Vince done this for years, though I am a casual basketball fan.

If you guys practice this play to perfection, it would really benefit in the playoff!!!

Its a sure basket or foul
