Giants sign Tejada

Post#1 » by Sandlot » Wed Dec 1, 2010 1:12 am

Tejada agreed to a one-year, $6.5 million contract with the Giants on Tuesday, ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas reports. The deal also includes roughly $500,000 performance incentives.

I'd say an upgrade to Uribe. He's a decent bat still. What do you think?

Probably about the same as Uribe offensively, and slightly worse defensively. But it's only a one year deal, which certainly beats the three years we would have had to give Uribe, and we still have the option of playing him at third.

One year deals are exactly what we needed to do to fill these holes on the field. Good job Sabes,

I like this pick up. I think it's great. Watching Tajada play last season.. I expect some great things coming from him. :D

Pros:
Good contact hitter
Doesn't strikeout too much
Durable
Just 1 year

Cons:
36 years
Mediocre defense, and losing range
Grounds into a lot of DPs
Lacks speed

He's got a career OPS of .800, but was under .700 last year. He was an all-star in '09 though, so it's not like he has no chance of having a good year. I think he's gonna have something like 13/75/.280. Not losing too much from Uribe, since he hits the ball more and is just as clutch.

We are apparently still taking a good look at Bartlett. Not a good sign for Pablo, seems like they don't like how his training is going. Remember, DeRosa is still alive, and Fontenot's not gone yet.
Giants also offered Uribe 20 mil for 3 years before Dodgers contacted him, and then matched the 21 mil they gave him. Dodger's overpaid, and I'm glad we didn't have to pay him for the next three years, but I don't get why Uribe turned us down? Makes it easier to dislike the guy though. I was worried, too, about having to maybe like a **** Dodger.

Here's hoping that Pablo and DeRosa stop being crap, and that Belt comes up to the bigs this year so that Huff can move to LF. This is probably our last big move of the year, doubt we'll be getting any big name OF'ers. Ross-Torres-Rowand looks to be our opening day OF, which is not good. I like the guy, but I don't see Andres putting up a season close to what he did for us this year.

Pitching will have to carry us again.

I don't know how i feel about this, he's basically a better Juan Uribe except worse on the defensive end. Oh and he's old.

Hoping that the Giant's have a bigger target in mind than Tejada.

Not this season. We're more or less the same team next year except for the SS position. I'm not sure if we'll be making any more deals for the rest of the offseason, even minor ones.

 This is why I'll always be a stupid fan and not a GM. Wait, does that mean Sabean should be out of a job too?
