Anyone who has ANY problem with this trade should leave this board.

This was a business move (saving lots of money) with an underlying practical application in that Joe Smith fills a critical NEED.

Great trade!!!! I can't believe how uninformed and ignorant some of my fellow Laker fans are. If you give up Vujachick and a 1st, you expect nothing but cap relief. In this case we got cap relief and a guy who fills a need ... absolutely great trade!!!

On another note, Caracter will eat up the D-League for the rest of the season.

Kupchak saved his boss [nearly] ten million dollars while making the immeadiate team better.

There is no arguement here. You have to give (in this case a 1st rd pk), to get (in this case a free year of services from the best coach ever ... Phil Jackson (10 mil per salary).

Those of you arguing are the type of people who are never satisfied or who magically think Vujacic could have been packaged with Walton for a player that can walk and chew gum at the same time.

The fact that Kupchak got two seconds out the deal and draft rights to a player who can be developed on someone else's dime is all the more appealing.

If calling people dense was too harsh, I apologize, but it is clear that if you object to this trade for whatever reason, you clearly have absolutely no understanding of how NBA teams function as businesses under the parameters of the current CBA (not that I'm Larry Coon by any stretch of the imagination).

Not one person spoke negatively about the trade in between your posts. You act like we're all in an uproar over your initial post and the trade in general...

This is a great deal in any way you look at it, financially and on and off the court.

I believe Sasha's attachment to fans make this seem a bad trade. The Machine was expected to deliver this season since it's his contract year but other players are stepping up and doing a better job.

Everytime I see him play recently, even from the past seasons, he played out of the system like he has a sack over his head, but you can't deny that you see passion in his game and that's why I respect Sasha.

No complaints. Just play hard. That's the mentality he'll bring in NJ. I'm sure that team will be getting a lil bit of Mamba Venom in their veins.

MoLakers wrote:i really liked this trade from the beginning.. and some seem to look at joe smith's stats this yr.. but u gota put into consideration that they have humphries who is rbding/hustling/ playing good interior D, Favors who has been playing well as a rook, and they even have Troy murphy who is way too talented to not be playing. and of course Brook lopez. joe smith can give us 5 minutes of solid ball, and thats more than vujacic could give us.

the money saved, along with 2 second rd draft picks, trade exception.. wow what a great trade. we probably wont use the tpe, but 5 million ish quality veteran that a team doesnt really need/want.. could help us big time around the trade deadline and on. Mitch and whomever are really doing a great job with these moves.

AMAZING TRADE! guille.. why u keep emphasizing 1-18 protected pick. we aint going anywhere near that anyways.. and "our players are getting old?" umm 2 second round picks are close to one of the last picks in the 1st round, without the guaranteed money as someone mentioned. this is the best case scenario. and u expect us to get even more from vujacic and a 1st? wowww

I read it in the realgm article = http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... _official/

If it isnt protected, and ofc it would be a late 1st round pick, then the trade was excellent :)

Sasha Vujacic is now engaged to tennis star and Manhattan Beach resident Maria Sharapova, and who knows how she feels about Vujacic being shipped out by the Lakers.

But Vujacic’s former girlfriend, actress Katie Cassidy, had some strong words from her Twitter account about the trade: “Oh life is great! Especially when an ex(a dirty one) gets relocated to the other side of the country! The dark cloud has vanished! Raise it up!”

Cassidy is now dating Kings hockey player Jarret Stoll.

It sounds like nobody understands the 1st round protected pick the Lakers gave up. The truth is, the news is even better than anyone seems to be imagining.

The Lakers gave up their 1st round pick to the Nets and it will likely be a #26-30 pick but IF THE LAKERS SLIDE and get the #1-18 pick they will KEEP THE PICK!

I actually like the fact that we gave up a first rounder for two second rounders. We seem to actually do pretty well with second rounders (see Turiaf, Caracter, Ebanks, Wafer). I guess picking later with no pressure of guarantee contract gives us more flexibility and therefore lead to more calculated decisions. Bottom first rounders, on the other hand, have been disasterous for us. I can't remember any of our recent late first rounders even making much of an impact at all. So yeah, I like this trade a lot. Smith gives us more insurance and Vujacic is finally gone.

Is the pick top 10 protected or top 20 protected?

Watch. Sasha is gonna ball it up now! :D

I like this move because it seems like the Lakers are "thinking ahead" as usual. If Sasha can't crack our rotation due to the development of Brown and the additions of Blake and Barnes, why keep him on the bench for $5 MIL?

The fact that Kupchak was able to get TWO 2nd round picks, one Golden State's which shouldn't be too far away from where our 1st round pick would be, for Sasha freaking Vujacic is fantastic!

We're now up to FOUR 2nd Round Picks in the 2011 draft (GSW, NY, MIA, and our own). If we can get even a single player for the future with one of those picks, then this trade will have been more than worth it.

I bet 2 of those 4 2nds are going to be sold, NY one for sure but I hope we keep GSW, find out a gem like a euro or a PG to develop to replace Fish.
