And my position remains, if that's the case, then I don't want him. He's not serious about winning. Enough of this star-obsessed mentality. And he's not good enough to treat as somehow indispensible. He's not a Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, Magic, etc. In a playoff series versus Orlando or Miami, he will never be the best player on the court. And if he puts up playoff numbers like he did in 2006 and 2008, we'll be booing his butt off the court.

Denver got their edge back thanks to the Carmelo comments. Not that this is surprising but this will go down to the trade deadline most likely and we are going to give up more than many of you think since now the free agency leverage is gone.

Hahn tweeted a few minutes ago that Denver isn't interested in any NY package. The way he phrased it, I'm not sure if he means the packages that have been put forth thus far or in any package the Knicks could come up with. Either way it's not good.

Right now, Denver isn't interested in any NYK package. RT @myCURTAINcall: @alanhahn odds DEN will trade Melo for Gallo??

I'm ready to move on. Giving Melo to Mike is poison anyway. He'll just play him at PF and I think Wilson is a better PF defender than Melo.

I really don't care about 'opening it up.' I think Amar'e at center is fool's gold and MD is a snake oil salesman. And if you give him Melo, he'll just play him at PF which is idiocy.

It does sound like Melo is getting antsy and getting interested in the Nyets. That's OK by me.

How he could not see that as the biggest mistake of his career is beyond me. His Clippers/Lakers analogy all but summed up his feelings on the Nets, IMO. We shall soon find out if he's all about the money or if his family's happiness and winning are real factors. The Nyets will never be winners, IMO...just contract them already.

I don't see any way that they can come to Brooklyn and eclipse the Knicks...it's just not happening.

In the last 2 weeks, he is made statements that his extension will be the first thing taken care of when traded. It's clear that's his number 1 priority so now Denver can go back to him and say, accept the trade to the Nets or there will be no extension or they can say, extend with us because we are not trading you.

Free agency is no longer an issue, if it ever was, for Melo. I am not sure I blame him, it's a lot of money to leave on the table and if I believe that the ownership and management will spend to make the team better (which the Nyets will) then I may take a flyer like Amar'e did with us.

he never was going to make it to free agency. denver can't let that happen and lose him for nothing. nothing's changed. he does want the extension but he's still not going to the nets. truthfully amare had no options, we were the only ones offering that money. melo still does.

I would rather wait until he signs the extension wherever that might be.

It seems we'll have to get a third team involved. Any ideas?

all i will say is it'll be a shame if he relents and accepts a trade somewhere else after giving ny a legit chance to get him (something lebron never did)

what? donnie isn't the one holding up a deal here. denver is. they are setting teams up to bid against each other for as long as possible in order to get the best possible deal.

nets offered the best deal, melo said no

(for now)

donnie needs to make every1 available (including fields, which at last reports was still untouchable), and then if they do not like the package, try to make it a 3 way to get players DEN wants

this waiting thing or not putting your best offer initially is not gonna work, he'd get cliff lee'd like the yanks did

'Melo has 90% of the power here. It's almost Veto power at this point. They can attempt to trade him to any team as a rental but even then not only is it merely a rental (so the team will be paying a rental price) but 'Melo can make it worse by making a statement through his agent that he doesn't want to play there. No team will be willing to take on that chemistry risk. That's 'Melo's ace up his sleeve.

His people let it be known that he wants NY only. He hinted he's willing to wait until the off-season to sign. He's declined NJ already. It's NY or bust at this point. If Walsh makes a good faith effort and offers a reasonable package and Denver still declines then Walsh's people can let 'Melo's agent to turn up the heat on Denver. The "heat" would be 'Melo sabotaging any potential deal elsewhere.

Why would he do that? He knows Melo is not gonna spend 3 years of his career waiting to come to NY. Why make everyone available instead of wait around for Denver to give into US. They want leverage but at the end of the day if Melo is REALLY REALLY serious about coming here then they will be forced to trade with us.

There is no need to put Fields and the whole roster on the market. Denver is the one is dilemma. We aren't.

What is their dilemma again? "Should we keep Melo and make a run at the playoffs or should we trade for players that we don't want and NY does not even offer (according to your suggestion)?" What gives? What is the incentive? Don't you realize how stupid what you suggest? Denver needs to deal with us so we will offer them no players that they may even be remotely interested is such a stupid logic.
