I think that 1st RD Pick we "gave away" is why we got that $6.3M TPE for Gortat so it really was neccessary...if we use it.

Gettting a TPE has nothing to do with including a first rounder or or. It's strictly based on salaries. Also how one team configures a trade has nothing to with how the other team configures a trade. In other words the Suns had no say in whether the Magic got a TPE or not.

I know how the Trade Exception works and I also would think that Phoenix or even more likely Otis said "I'll send you our 1st RD pick if you use your TPE to absorb Gortat" cause PHX coulda easily requested we take on another player to make the salaries match (to keep trade in their favor by keeping their TPE).

Otis coulda even said "I'll send you our 1st if you include Earl Clark (who probably didn't have to be included to make the deal work financially).

Who knows but that's my point that our 1st was needed to get this deal done.

$6.3M TPE is much more valuable than a very very (likely) late 1st RD Pick.

Maybe we could get a guy like Thabeet from Memphis w/ that TPE (+ Orton) cause they're looking to shed salary in the worst way in order to keep Gasol. This way don't have to trade Mayo in order to do it, they could keep both.

BTW - Can't combine TPE & a player for a single player in return. It can however be 2 separate deals TPE for player A; Orton for player B.

My point is that the Suns didn't have a TPE that they send out. The Magic created a TPE by configuring the trade that way.
Could they have requested the Magic to take on another player? Yes. Is is possible that Otis wanted Earl Clark and therefore had to send out a first? Yes. But the trade was already lopsided in Phoenix's favor, so I don't see how the Suns were in the position to demand a first. That's just my opinon though.

The Orlando Magic expect the four players for whom they traded over the weekend--that'd be Gilbert Arenas, Earl Clark, Jason Richardson, and Hedo Turkoglu--to be available tonight when they take on the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena, reports Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel. All four have joined the team taken their physicals, and no roadblocks are expected. However, due to uncertainty about whether the players Orlando traded had taken theirs, the Magic did not have practice today, as involving the new players in that would have violated the NBA's rules.

Yeah I know, didn't feel I had to type whole thing just the gist of it.

Orton to Memphis (they can absorb his salary) then TPE for Thabeet was the thought, just didn't articulate it.

Arenas is a liar and always has been. Anytime he feels like making up a story, he'll do so.

Sounds to me like you guys are just trying to create drama. What I heard in context was that he was at his house telling him that he was gone and to keep working hard etc. So nick heard it from him.

2 things:

1) No wonder my brother was like wtf you talkin' about when I asked him tix, it's an away game. I almost convinced him it was a home game I was so sure. Silly me.

2) Failing that physical reminds me when Sean Elliot got traded for Robert Horry but failed his physical and both had to return to their old teams.

Dwight should become an actor till his free agency, Hedo should open a Turkish pizzeria & Gilbert should open a gun shop .. And we should immediately try to get Vince back. Maybe this was all a big motivation for Vince! Trading him and trading him back to get him motivated .. Yeah
