More than even 2 days ago, I think that this trade has a DEN-NYK Carmelo "trade to come" component in it.

That 3 million dollars conveyed to the Suns smells like "pre-payment" for giving away one of the 1st round picks...maybe somehow, in some form Orlando gets "repaid" for that money wire from another team. The fact that the trade happened on "ghost deadline day" seems strong evidence that one or more of the acquired players are involved in the construction of a possible deadline day trade...Carmelo Anthony deal or other.

Can't see the Suns keeping multiple 1st rounders and maybe not either. And it's clear to everybody, that the room marked "wings" is more than full for the Suns. So...

Here's my attempt at playing Nostradamus-

PHX OUT- Pietrus (or other wing)/Both 2011 1st round picks
PHX IN- Randolph/Knicks 2012 2nd round (top 55 protection removed)/Future Denver 2nd round

NYK OUT- Gallinari/Randolph/Curry/Warrior's 2012 2nd round/Own 2012 2nd round (and prably something more *?)
NYK IN- Carmelo Anthony

DEN OUT- Carmelo Anthony/future 2nd round
DEN IN- Gallinari/Pietrus/Curry/*?/2011 PHX 1st rd/2011 ORL 1st rd/2012 Warriors 2nd rd.

really napoleon?? U think we had a shot of being a championship team nash's twilight years?? get real. This is for the future. At best this team is a .500 club even if Nash was a 20/10 guy. We need another star and a team that plays defense and although this team is far from that at least they would be fun to watch.

Mcdyess, shaq, grant seems to find the fountain of youth here in phx. I dont think VC is a bad trade. the key here is not VC but gortat. Stop hating! Im looking forward to their debut. besides the suns was a lot worse with hedo.

If the Knicks want Childress and the Magic's first? That's fine. Randolph's stock is in the toilet right now. In no way do we give up so much for a player who will struggle to crack the rotation.

No kidding. Luckily the way the Suns handled Clark shows they'd have limited interest in a similar player like Randolph.

I didn't say I would like the deal

I have a feeling the Suns still "have a thing" for Randolph.

I think the Suns consider Anthony Randolph to be a draft pick with NBA experience and if acquired, it would be with an eye towards the future...a 21 yo PF prospect for the re-build. No expectations for him to crack the rotation until next year. The Suns already have too many rotation players on the current squad (11). 10 is the magic number.

The recently created Earl Clark TE would allow for a straight TE + 1st for Randolph swap.

I'm obviously an Orlando fan... just checkin your board to learn more about what the fans are saying about Turk, Rich, and EC. Then ran across some surprisingly optimistic comments about Carter... I do think he will play more freely on the Suns, but I just want you guys to know he's lost a lot of confidence and skill. Partly because of all the pressure and expectations, but also because he's old. On the Suns, the pressure will be lifted, but he'll still be old and his confidence is probably at an all time low right now.

I really thought he was going to turn the corner this year, compared to last, and although his shot % increased, I think it's misleading. First, his 3pt shot was extremely high in preseason (50%) and beginning of reg season (45%), but has been dropping since. His numbers at home are much, much better than away. Look them up, you'll be surprised at the difference, as the gap is larger than normal. What pissed Magic fans off the most is he didn't show up for the big games. He was brought in to be our Mr. 4th quarter and he either got rocked by the defense or deferred to other players. He missed shots we needed, made ones we didn't really need against elite teams, if that makes sense. He basically disappeared in games when we went to him and didn't try until it was too late and we already lost. He also drives to the basket and can't get it done anymore. He hopes to get fouled, rather than score, unfortunately, and he doesn't get the call most times. Every once in a while he surprised us, but at this point we're happy to see him gone. I Hope he can have a revival in Phoenix, but I think he'll just become a dangerous 3pt threat more than anything else. The great thing is you guys can dump him soon.

Gortat is a great rebounder and shot blocker, as I'm sure you guys know by now. He tries very hard on defense and i love how he secures rebounds by hugging the ball. However, one thing you should expect is for him to drop a lot of passes. He either has incredibly tiny hands, like the guy in the burger king commercials, or he needs extra time to react. The dude gets surprised a lot and the ball just bounces off his fists. Granted, Nash is a much better passing point than all of our guys combined, but I'm talking about clean passes that you expect Gortat to catch and finish. I can see this being a problem with Nash since he comes up with clever ways to deliver guys the ball. Overall, Gortat will be missed for his defense and we all wish we could have kept him.

Pietrus is an awesome three point shooter as long as he doesn't dribble first. You don't want him thinking too much or he'll miss. He also seems to step out of bounds a lot when trying to make a move from the corners. Tries hard on defense by staying glued to the opponent, but I'd say some overrate him in that department. He always falls for the pump fake. We loved him for his spirit/energy, funny celebrations, and big threes.

Sorry for so many negative comments about these guys, but I figured it'd be worth it to tell you their flaws at this point in their careers. That way if you start seeing them, you'll know it's their regular tendencies. New team could bring new changes though. It's just what I noticed over the years while watching them on the Magic.

When have the Suns ever showed interest in Randolph? The Amare trade rumors were centered around Curry. Even if they did at one point the front office has completely turned over and as I said I don't see them revisiting what would basically be Earl Clark 2.0.

But I guess we'll see since pretty much everyone agrees AR is there for the taking(just no takers).

I don't have "a boner" for Randolph, though he is a very young PF prospect that would have an opportunity to slowly grow as the Suns work on the re-build. Again, I'm just taking a wild guess of what could be brewing. Where the Suns might be looking.

Yes, in the describe deal multiple picks are going out, but multiple picks are coming back. You can disagree, but I believe the Suns don't really want low first round picks and would exchange them for 2nd rounders.

Exactly... It's the members of this board that don't shut up about AR. They confuse the Suns FO with themselves...

But..... they can get better deals than a possible career "project" player. For once, the Suns sort of have some leverage with decent possible deals. Given the recent moves, they aren't looking for a player to build up in a rebuild, but a player that can contribute immediately and maybe help give the old-timers one more push.

I'm really sorry that my talk of a possible Anthony Randolph acquistion bugs you so deeply. I'm just being honest with some suspicions that he could get here via a NYK-DEN swap. I'm just putting out what I feel is a possibility. I don't get why you're so upset.

When did I "lob pejoratives"? I LOL'd earlier because AR gets brought up every other post. We get it. Some people think the Suns will make a boneheaded move for him. I'm perfectly capable of having conversations, but I get tired of bringing up the same points every other post, so I keep it short. Now that EC is gone, bringing up AR has become the new EC bashing.

Anyway - I agree that it makes sense this is the first of at least two deals, and the more i think on it the more i like the idea of VC here. He can be a 3-pt shooter, no-one expects him to come in and be a highlight reel, but, that said, he actually has a bit more in his bag of tricks than JRich does - post moves, of the dribble moves etc - not that I expect to see a lot of that. I think Nash is going to make him look very very good.

I don;t think we want to move Pietrus - a good defensive player who shoots threes? He and Duds make a nice pair. If anyone, we move Warrick, who can't play PF anyway no matter how tall he is. Too spindly, no D - I was infatuated with the dunks at first but I'm not in love anymore. Too many missed layups/dunks, no nuts.

and we called Gani back up - good times

You're right. Not any pejoritives in this back and forth, but you do tend to go for the short, colorful bash when you don't agree. You're hardly the worst quick to the "flaming trigger" offender, but sometimes you just seem to get pissed darn easy.

If AR ends up here (which he in all likelihood won't) you can aim all your venom at the FO for the stupid move. Save something else for me, if it happens.

I DO feel, this PHX-ORL trade has possible implications as far as C.Anthony, The Knicks and Denver drama. And if it's true Randolph is the element the Suns could have strong interest in IMHO, and at the same time enabling the NYK-DEN swap. He's a nice fit for the re-build on the fly plan. Move a superfluous wing, get a known PF commodity "draft pick" and get out of the treturous late first round, for 2nd round freedom. Have a nice piece for the future...a cheap one to test.

I won't talk of AR again. Rest easy.

I don't know the trade game like everyone here but one thing that stuck out in this trade and that's Gallinari. Dantoni loves the guy. Called him the greatest shooter he's ever seen. Not so sure the Knicks want to part with him.

I don't completely understand the FO having a desire to help DEN-NYK Melo trade go through. What is their motivation for it? They don't gain much, And they make the Knicks a much better team. Granted it weakens the Nuggets, but I don't think the Suns really have to worry about the Nuggets.

How about ZACH Randolph?

Trade exception plus a first round pick pry him away from Memphis?

Save the grizzlies money we all know they love doing that.

That team has no interest in winning anything.

Z-Bo would be a great piece here next to Lopez and I bet we could pry him away for not much

Return to Phoenix Suns
