"Fire Paul Westphal? Three Possible Replacements."

Post#1 » by YC42Balla » Tue Dec 21, 2010 7:42 pm

Hey guys, I was on SacTownRoyalty.com and found this interesting article. I figured this would be a good topic to discuss.

The Sacramento Kings have the worst record in the NBA at 5-20. The Kings are 0-2 against the Los Angeles Clippers, 1-14 against the West (the single win a 1-point victory over the Timberwolves), 3-11 at home, losers of 19 of their last 21 games.

Anyone can do as good or better than what PW is doing
Damn the team can play & have as good or better of a record if it had no coach at all than what PW is doing !

So Sad !

Was to lazy to click the link but who are the three replacements?

However, this situation is screaming when Greg Oden and Kevin Durant was entering the draft. And the Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers was on the hot seat because their record was basically just as terrible as ours now and they had regressed from the previous season. Management stood pat by not firing Doc, traded their pick and was able to bring in guys and the rest as they say is history.

I feel Paul should stay on for the final year of his extended contract and lets actually give him a team that can produce and make everyone else's job easier. We have the capspace along with draft picks to make deals and really turn things around. We have the young players: Cousins Tyreke Casspi Whiteside and Greene. We also have tradeable assests: Landry Dalembert Francisco Beno etc.

With Petrie at the helm and the Maloofs willing to shed the paper, we could very well mimmic the Celtics and have hopefully the same successes!

If you sleep on Beno, he can drop 30/10 on you.

^Shall remain until this happens

We can't fire Paul Westphal.

Winning Kings teams: 8 years, 1 coach, 1 system, lots of playoffs

Losing Kings: 6 years: 6 different coaches, 6 systems, lots of lottery picks.

We have to keep Westphal.

It is not the fault of Westphal that the Maloofs didn't want to pay KMart and traded Hawes too soon.
The Hawes/JT/Greene frontline production last year was better than the Dalembert/Landry/Casspi this year and had tons more wins.

The Kings are less of a team this year than last because the Maloofs moved all the 3 point shooters.
It looks like the Maloofs are starting to understand they F'ed since they are terrible.

Petrie is working on trading Dalembert and Landry now to fix the Maloof caused problems.

Then lets judge Westphal can do.

Scott Brooks also was miserable for 1 year, still terrible a 2nd year then made the playoffs in the 3rd.

Sad thing is, the sandwich might give him a run for his money.

I also like the fact that asking for a different approach and quite possibly a new coach somehow lacks courage. Give me a break. If you want to sink with the ship go on ahead, I'd like to try and save it myself but hey, what do we know.

You're wrong on so many levels.

First off, 6 coaches in 6 years? After RA there was Muss, Theus, Natt and Westfail. That's 4.

And seriously?! You're missing Hawes still? You're almost as bad as Smills...

Why don't you go over to the 76er board and ask them how their starting center is doing. 7/5 in 20 minutes (which is near his career average)...oh yeah, I miss him already.

Finally, Scott Brooks took over for P.J. Carlesimo about 12 games into the season and went 22 and 47 (as a coach, not the teams final record). The next season, he went 50 and 32. And now, they're 20 and 9. So he was bad (but WAY better than P.J.) when he took over, but VERY good in the 2nd and even better in the 3rd. How exactly is that comparable to what Westfail is doing?

The sad thing is the Maloofs would've been willing to pay KMart if PW had been able to make it work with him and Tyreke but he couldn't do that.

You don't have to keep Westphal and using the amount of coaches over the last couple of years as a reason just isn't thinking clearly. At least there are some pieces to build around now, find the right guy that will instill the patient offense based around the strength of this team. Period.
