Before pierce got to play with Garnett and allen he lead the Celtics to the worst record in the league. The nuggets with melo have never been that bad.... and that was through the Kmart signing flop.... through his rookie year.... come on man.

Pierce and Antoine Walker got to the Eastern Conference finals. Think about that. They got to the semis the next year and then got KOed in the 1st round the next two. What followed was a total rebuild. Pierce was playing with a bunch of scrubs and young puppies.

In 05-06, first year they didnt make the playoffs in 5 years, Pierce was playing with Ricky Davis, Wally, Mark Blount, Raef Lafrentz, and Delonte. You think Melo would make that team better?

In 06-07, the year they tanked for Oden, Pierce was playing with Wally, young Al Jefferson and Kenderick, Delonte, Ryan Gomes, Tony Allen, Gerald Green, rookie Rajon, and Telfair. You think Melo would have made this team better? They tanked this season just like Miami tanked for Rose. It doesnt mean Wade sucks does it?

Come on man. You are overrating Melo big time. Again Im not against getting him, but Im trying to see this team win a ring before I die, not get smacked by Miami for the next decade. We have to be smart here and not get desperate.

Paula pierce was never on the level of Melo, never considered a top 5 player. Advanced in some of the weakest ECF of all time. Melo plays in the WC in the years of the Spurs and Lakers dynasties.

@TommyDeeTKB heard @RicBucher on mad dog radio today. Heard that Melo might prefer to test free agency to keep NY roster in tact.

THIS is where I stand shammgodd. Be patient Melo. Be patient.

The roster still doesn't stay intact if we sign Melo in the off season. One could also argue that if we trade for him and the CBA still offers a MLE and LLE to teams over the cap we could put together a stronger team.

Keeping Gallo, Fields, Randolph, and picks is better than keeping Chandler (who would be redundant and overpaid with Melo) and the MLE (which might be reduced or taken out all together) in my eyes.

Give me Melo, Amare, Felton, Gallo, Fields, Randolph, Douglas, Williams, and Mozgov to build from. One or two moves here and there and that team is scary and has a legit shot at contending.

Could easily make a move for someone like Camby at that point, too.

It seems that from the sound of things, the Knicks can secure a 1st round pick, but it would appear to be coming from a fringe playoff team and it would include parting ways with Anthony Randolph who has been shopped for weeks. That actually wouldn’t be that bad from the Nuggets perspective seeing that if they dealt Melo to New Jersey now, should Melo agree, the Nets could make their own playoff push.

The good news for the Knicks, from what I’ve been told, is that there has most certainly been dialogue recently and Denver seems willing to at least listen.

Of course, Melo can say to the Nuggets that he will only extend with the Knicks or test free agency.

And still trot a team out with no 2 guard? Say what you want about fields and I like him he ain't no 2 guard. He doesn't shoot the ball well enough to play the 2. And where does Gallo play the 4? or put Melo at the 4 and leave gallo at the 3? The team is still full of redundancy.

Trade for melo before the trade deadline and then move on to the overall balance and cohesion of the roster and not just clinging to name and face players that fans have grown attached to.

Tim Legler -

"If your Carmelo and you want to be in NY, do you want to play with the Nets in Brooklyn or with the Knicks in MSG, no question you want to do it in MSG. If Carmelo wants to go there (Knicks), it doesn't matter what the Nets have to offer."

Said that Felton, Amare and Melo is your core and while they may not be the greatest defensive team they would win A LOT of games.

It's over! Teams Open To 'Renting' Carmelo
http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wireta ... g_carmelo/
:nonono:

The sources wouldn't identify the teams, but Dallas could be one team that has inquired.

My guess is the mystery team that an unnamed source has absolutely no proof of wanting to rent Carmelo is...

The Vancouver Canucks

I'm betting the package to rent will be significantly lower than the package to own. Say expiring + pick versus expiring + young talent + multiple picks. It really isn't a big deal unless Denver is too stubborn to turn down a better package from NY to take less from another team. -Jitpal

I still don't get how the Denver Post keeps saying the Nets are the most likely destination for Melo. Do not get it.

I really doubt they will accept an offer from a rental over us. Why would they jeopardize their future like that.

Yep.

If Denver really is willing to cut off it's own nose to spite its face then there's really nothing NY can do about it. If they want to accept "rent-a-Melo" packages just to keep him out of NY then more power to them.

Based on what I've heard Junior Kroenke (who apparently is now in charge) would be that type of spiteful guy. If true, then, what can you do.

The funny thing is that in an attempt to not have Melo and the Knicks get the last laugh, they might indeed end up being exactly that.

Yes...by all means...Rodrique Beaubois is da bomb yo (rather than the most overrated young player in the NBA) and boy a couple of Maverick picks are sweeeeeet.
