so do you still feel great about this trade seeing we could have drafted your boy Esposito?

I'm a little disappointed, but there's no way anyone would've predicted a free fall for either one of them. You can't fault JFJ for teams not picking 2 players.

He completed the trade, then 2 players fell late in the first round, it's not really his fault.

There's nothin wrong with Cherapanov....it's the Russian agreement that set the wheels in motion. Esposito is overhyped IMO and is just another Mike Ribeiro/ Alex Daigle clone IMO. He might be better since he's going to play alongside Crosby, Malkin, Staal, Armstong etc. But I'm happy with the day though.

This is a weak draft and now, if the Leafs miss the playoffs next year, they keep a top 14 pick! There's no guarentees the Leafs even take either of them, they could've taken Lars Eller and called it a night.

Ferguson exponentially improved this team. He added a skilled, rough winger in Bell, somewhat like Kilger but with better hands and Toskala who is regarded by most Sharks fans as their number one goalie.

Next move JFJ, deal Kubina and RayCroft. Kubina to EDM/WSH and Raycroft to NSH ;)

The Leafs don't owe San Jose any other picks (other than the 4th rounder in a couple years). The condition was that San Jose has the opportunity to pass up the #13 overall if they weren't interested in anyone at that spot, and if they did, the Leafs would owe them a protected first next year, or a first in 09'. With San Jose using the #13 pick, we're no longer in debt.

I was personally hoping for a Raycroft to Phoenix trade for a 2nd rounder/2nd tier prospect.

Maybe....they took one goalie off our hands... ;)

But I see them dealing him to NSH. They ahve Chris Mason as their starter and he's fairly cheap. They can work a tandem goaltending combo there.

I'd trade Raycroft to NSH for the Rights to Kariya and call it a night if I was JFJ.

Kubina to EDM for chump change....I'd actually pay them to take the salary off our hands....lol.

Toronto has 3 picks coming up in the 4th round:

#99
#103
#104

If this draft is as middle-heavy as everyone is sayign we should be grabbing decent depth guys in this round. Mitchell looks like a good pick.

The NHL site had the Leafs listed at 103 and 104 but now PHX has the 103 pick- not sure if the original order was a mistake or if there was a minor trade. Oh well- Leafs up at #104....

and they take:

Ben Winnett 6'0" 173lbs from Salmon Arm BC (winger)

I wish the Leafs would've ignored that whole Russian agreement problem and drafted Mayorov. I can't believe he fell to the 4th round, he would've been an ideal pick for the Leafs in the 3rd round.

5'7'' 209!!! Jesus, is he built like Oliver Miller or something?
And Kelso, about STeen, hopefully you weren't listening to the fan/aren't around any sharp objects, because they were reporting Leafs could have had the fifth pick for Steen but refused, calling him untouchable. What a joke.

He's 5'9. Where did you get 5'7 from?

From Kelso's post.
5'9'' makes a little more sense, I'm downgrading him from Oliver Miller to Lonny Baxter.

:nonono: We would have to search long and hard to replace his 35 points last year. Geez- Mark Bell will do better then that.

Thanks for the info. The write-ups sound pretty good- I hope there is some truth to them. I like the Mitchell pick a lot.

I think we got some solid players late in this draft, mostly Mitchell.

The guy scored 43 goals for the Generals, and wasn't on Tavares' line, he played on the 2nd line. If the guy played with Tavares, his stats would be through the roof, you'd be looking at a 1st/2nd round player if he played on that top line.
