WojYahooNBA Charles Oakley is a "strong" possibilty to join a Paul Silas coaching staff in Charlotte, league source says.

I'd rather Ewing, but Oakley might bring a nice dimension.

I'm also a little worried about this infatuation that MJ has of hiring people he is close to. It's horrible, horrible business sense.

Fantastic Christmas gift from the Bobcats. So relieved LB is gone.

I agree and it could also undermine the head coach.

Well, you gotta trust someone. Besides, these guys seem cool so far.

my thoughts from the LB fired thread

i agree with what vandy, gq and ham said about silas.

not really an xo's guy, more of a bernie type who motivates. he is definitely a players coach. not afraid to play younger guys. i remember when he first took over the hornets he ran this UCLA cut offense that was pretty successful. and i remember him always getting on players for not taking open jumpers. he would talk about how passing up and open jumper, even in the early shot clock is bad cause you might not get a better look. kinda anti-brown in that sense. seem to remember silas having some trust issues with his assistants and really wouldnt allow them much imput. that was one thing that kinda turned me off about him.

however, he wants to be here, he is from charlotte. he has been begging for a chance to get back into coaching. considering the circumstances i think bringing silas in here for the rest of the season is probably the best thing we can do now. trying to find a long term coach mid-season is a bad idea. we can re-evaluate everything in the offseason.

hopefully mj tells him that he will be evaluated on developing players and progress and not so much on wins. i dont want to see silas playing starting 40+ minutes and ignoring our young guys just to try to impress jordan.

playoff hopes are all but lost. lets focus on making these young guys better, something larry failed to do.

I remember his timeout patterns sucking .. but getting a bit better as time went on.

I remember him really helping out his big men ... but holding back a young BD in his first year. So my expectation is that TT would improve but I wouldn't expect too much more out of DJ under Sials.

The thing that got me the most was Sials making his son an assistant coach. Seemed pretty unprofessional to me at the time.

The players all responded to him well at first, so he's a very reasonable choice as a interim coach.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

obviously this team isnt a good team. larry couldnt win with this team and i doubt silas or anyone else will be able to do much better. you have to have good players in the nba. coaches can only do so much. however, here is what i want to see changed under new leadership.

1) give me some entertainment. we are paying good money to go see this team or spending valuable time watching them on tv. good team or not, we deserve to see some entertaining basketball, not slowed down, offensively challenged garbage. pick up the pace, run, shoot quicker in the shot clock and get creative.

2) show me some development of the young guys, particularly henderson, augustin, d brown and thomas, guys who we have invested draft picks and money into. assuming we dont make a miracle run immediately putting us back into the playoffs, i'd like to see silas give these players confidence and room to grow and make mistakes, w/out fear of public embarrassment.

3) dont make excuses. dont blame the players. dont publicly criticize your players in the media after every single loss. that doesnt do anyone any good. there is a time and place for that type of criticism and occasionally using the media to rip players is appropriate. however, it not healthy to do that constantly. its time to build some confidence in these players and not tear it apart.

The fact that he is actually excited about coaching the team already makes him an upgrade!!

im a little concerned that silas hasnt been involved in the league in any capacity in a few years. its really hard to stay connected while sitting on the sofa. hopefully he can find some assistants who are dialed in to the current state of the league. but, in the past, silas has had problems with giving his assistants much input.

it will be very telling to see who he hires... and probably tough to find coaches who are also free.
