2011 Free Agent Thread

I think the two positions we really need to focus on during FA are shooting guard and center.

Kendrick Perkins – We need someone who can play center when Milicic is on the bench. Pekovic and Koufos don’t do it for me. Can we convince a player who’s played his whole career in Boston which happens to be a championship caliber team to play for Minnesota? Even if we can convince him to play in Minnesota, it will only be because we overpay.

Tyson Chandler - I think he’s our best chance at a legit center option. Chandler has been moved so much in the last few years and is relatively new in Dallas, so I don’t think loyalty will be a huge factor in his choice this upcoming summer. Milicic and Chandler would be sick.

I don't really have a big wish list, this free agency class doesn't look super appealing.

Perkins/Love froncourt has the same flaws as Darko/Love. It's lack of athletic agility plus no premium lowpost scoring. Who knows how Perkins gonna look like upon return?

Cuban loves Chandler and will give him a big contract, I don't see him leaving Dallas for Minnesota.

I wouldn't mind AK47 at all. Not at his current price tag, but just as a player. The things he does etc. Also would keep our Euro trend going with Pekovic, Darko, Rubio and Bjelica :)

Chandler would be sick. If he could do for this defence what he did for Dallas and Charlotte's.

Other guys I'd like taking a chance on would be Nazr Mohammed, Tayshaun Prince, Chuck Hayes, Michael Redd, Marcus Thornton, Kelenna Azubuike, Jason Richardson, Earl Clark, Joel Pryzbilla, Joey Dorsey and Fransisco Elson.

Redd? Seriously? Dude is done. Only guys that would interest me are Clark, Thornton and Azubuike.

Chandler won't come here. He'll resign with Dallas. :(

Anyway, I still want to take a flyer on McGrady. I think Wes and Beas would really benefit from learning from TMac.

I wanted Chandler before Dallas even knew they wanted Chandler

I want veterans. If Redd can play 10 minutes a game, spread the floor and maybe pass some tips onto Beasley about what it's like to be a #1 option he'll be worth a contract.

I would prefer McGrady. Wes Johnson would really profit from McGrady cause he would tell him how to create his own shots.

Not as keen on McGrady. If he's good enough to play I don't know why he'd be keen to play here.

bleh, have a coach do that. Not trying to act like an ass, but if you really wanted a veteran to teach these guys these things, than hire one as an assistant coach. Otherwise we'd be wasting cap space and a roster spot.

If we nabbed Kirilenko from Utah, we could land a huge blow to a division rival. We would have so much depth with Kirilenko coming off the bench, and the best part is that you don't even need to trade Wesley Johnson to acquire him.

We have no cap space. It is a myth. We need to use the cap space currently before the trade deadline. It will not exist this summer.

That's news to me. Don't we have the lowest payroll in the league?

Read between those lines. Does this mean we can give some big extensions this off season? Maybe the cap goes way down this off season. I love decoding Rev-script.

Unless the others are right and you are subtling suggesting the team is going to hand out extensions, then technically you're incorrect. The team won't have the same 10-13 mil it does now but I think the numbers rounds down to about 5.

If anything this thread has shown that 2011 free agency isn't reallya viable option to improve the team.

All the players I would look at would be RFAs

Nick Young
Marcus Thornton
Aaron Afflalo
Deandre Jordan

As for FAs, the only one I would look at would be Diaw (if he was cheap enough), just because he would be a great fit for us off the bench.
