Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
The UT game will be interesting, to say the least. Which Memphis and which UT squad will show up? Could be a tight game or a blowout either way - an not be surprising in the least.

I would say that Tennessee has the edge, but you never really know. I think Memphis's erratic play this season is largely attributable to Wesley Witherspoon's inconsistency. Will Barton is starting to come on strong, and Coleman needs to emerge as more of a post option on the offensive end.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
The lack of talent up front is glaring, which is what has held Memphis back for years. Barton is looking better and better. Hopefully, JJ gets more aggressive looking for his offense. I'll definitely be at all the home games once Spring semester starts next week.

^ It doesn't help that Angel Garcia left to play overseas.

He really didn't add squat this year. So it's more that he brought nothing, as opposed to leaving afterward, that sucks.
Pealvert's last game before his pre-firing suspension begins.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
Tarik Black has brought very little in terms of rebounding. I thought he could be this team's Joey Dorsey when I heard he committed, but he's not even close to freshman Joey D. He's as strong as an ox, but lacks rebounding instincts. Hope he and Coleman can turn around because the lack of size in the back court hurts.

Brought height, depth, just being a body on the floor was helpful. What are you going to do: put DJ Stephens at center when Coleman and Black get in foul trouble?

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
Latest news is Wesley Witherspoon has been suspended indefinately for mocking an assistant coach on the bus ride back home following a dumb loss vs. SMU. Anytime you build up a lead and lose it twice. The team is inviting a loss to take place.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
Team looked much better (especially the Coleman/Black pairing) than with Spoon. Hopefully this will be the wakeup call that Wesley seriously is in need of. I'd rather see the youngsters play with this level of intensity/focus and lose more than have WW playing and not know what the heck you're in for.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
Witherspoon may have tanked his own draft stock in that case. People act like SMU is such a terrible team. To be honest, I can understand why Memphis lost to them- Papa Dia is one of the most underrated players in the country. Given, the Tigers are a much better team, but it's still not all that inconceivable. SMU should finish towards the middle of the pack.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
To me, Spoon really isn't that good of a player. Let alone makes a case to be drafted. Not a good dribbler, doesn't have a set shot, and fundamentals aren't all that. He doesn't have a defined position in college bball. In the C-USA, he can get away with playing @ PF in some matchups, but put him against better competition @ his position, Wes would lose those matchups.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
With the way this group of Tigers have been playing lately. It's safe to say this group has been the worst bunch to hit the court in a minute. From losing games that were considered winnable to lack of cohesiveness as a unit and simply inexperience as a whole. This should be a lesson to coaches everywhere. Never have a roster set up to where freshmen make up the majority. It can get you in trouble everytime.

No kidding. But it's not like Josh had much of a choice this season. Here's hoping they grow up in a big way next year.

Re: Memphis Tigers Basketball
The Tigers are 1 and done now. Hopefully this season alone has been a helleva learning experience for everyone of them. A team cannot function well with egos and arrogance dominating the team.
The Tigers will build on thisyear and look to make better improvements during the offseason by going after the players that best fit the program and help them improve their chances togo deeper into the tournament next year. Wil Barton and JJ are expected to stay another year as they both need to in the worst way. Both are not ready for the pros an it showed this year.
In spite of the rough road, the Tigers still hit the tourney and did their best to make an impact in the first round inspite of the loss. They should be proud to get that far. Just use this year to build and get better for the next season.
