Would You Trade Flynn After This Season

Post#1 » by MickeyDavis » Fri Dec 24, 2010 5:09 am

I didn't realize he'll be a RFA (unless the new CBA changes that somehow). I know many teams need QB's but I can't see anyone giving him too much money, but you never know. Wolf always traded his QB's early (Brunnell and Hasselback after 2 years, Brooks after 1).

I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

If we can get good value, I wouldn't see why not.

I don't think I would unless we're really wowed away by an offer.

I think if you can get a high second round pick from a bad team that misses out on Luck then you take it. Or a late first from a mediocre team that needs a QB. He certainly looked better than a lot of QBs who are starting in the NFL right now.

I'm not just giving him away though.

Yeah, I'd definitely move him for a 2nd or better. TT could do a lot of damage with a 1st, 1st/2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th.

Yes, I'd do it because we'll find the next Matt Flynn soon enough. And who cares?

Kevin O'Connell?
Curtis Painter?
Chase Daniel?

May as well have twirlz backing up the top QBs in the league. If they go out, you're screwed. Now, in a one game scenario, yes, having Sage Rosenfels may pull off a game where Rodgers goes out at halftime and we need to win. Is that unlikely opportunity that you may not even win worth not getting a 2nd or whatever it may be? Hell no. It will happen one every 4, maybe 5 seasons...and it may not even matter in certain games like that.

If we could move either him + another pick for a 1st or just him for a 2nd I would do it. Anything lower than that I wouldn't.

Keep him. This A Rod concussion thing could be a long term problem. This isn't like Favre with years of ironman play.

Yes. Minimum = early 2nd OR late 2nd & 4th OR two 3rds.
Then sign vet as backup & draft one in mid-late rd to develop

I'd trade him if someone offered up a decent pick.

There was an article in training camp how many scouts and talent evaluators throughout the league has Flynn rated as the best backup in the entire league. So some important people think highly of him, no question about that. I think he could end up having a very similar career if not better than Hasselebeck who we received a 3rd round pick for and got to move up 10 spots in round 1. I would for sure take that this offseason

Flynn's ceiling is super low but his floor is super high. He lacks arm strength but he's a decent game manager. A lot of QB's can't even say that.

Yep, there are a lot of teams that wish they had someone like Flynn on the roster right now.

Say what? An Article I read on espn.com had him ranked as the lowest back up Q.B.
The guy is smart, he won't make many mistakes, but this is a passing league now. Its not like a few years ago when trent dilfer can be the qb of a superbowl winning team. I just don't see many teams paying a first day pick for him. A few years ago, maybe. But he just does not have the skill set. Especially when the Eagles will be pushing Kolb hard this offseason. They are talking about Kolb getting a 2nd round pick, I have not heard many people claim kolb and Flynn have the same upside.

there are only a few teams the Flynn system could work. he needs a top 5 defense, and a great running game. But it would be going against the flow in the NFL. Maybe he will be traded, but if any team pays you guys a 1st or high 2nd round pick you robbed the hell out of them. i just can't wrap my head around people saying he is worth trading a 1st or 2nd. I personally think its a stretch for the eagles to get a 2nd for Kolb. Who has an over all better skill set.

Do you remember where you read the article about Flynn, I would be an interesting read.

And before anybody blasts me, I am not saying Flynn is turrible. He did surprise me in the Pats game. But in todays NFL I don't see how his style fits .

I don't ever recall there being an article on ESPN about Flynn being the worst backup and I read everything about the Packers on that site...

The guy that left JSonline for Boston did an article not that long ago where he talked to a couple GMs and they were all over Flynn.
