"Imagine if you could take Kevin Love off Minnesota and add him to another team and you shrink the [league]. Looking at some of the teams that aren't that great, you take Brook Lopez or you take Devin Harris off these teams that aren't that good right now and you add him to a team that could be really good. Not saying let's take New Jersey and let's take Minnesota out of the league. But hey, you guys are not stupid, I'm not stupid, it would be great for the league."

He makes an interesting point. Some teams seem to always be bad...some are always good.... and other teams cycle between good years and bad years. You won't find a true franchise player in every draft or get the top free agents every year, so its up to the front office to put a good team together to stay competitive.

Yep. They've made the playoffs 4 times since 1985 or 1979 if you want to include their years in San Diego. The grizzles have made the playoffs 4 times since coming into existence in 1996.

That's just bad management. I can't say our management is that bad...but it isn't great either....

Lebron might be on my Xbox Live friends list. I know a guy who said the same thing last summer. He basically said the NBA should get rid of all the teams like the wolves, etc so it can be way more competitive. Can't really blame him. from his perspective we are just a waste of a franchise. If you aingt making any noise why are you there?

What happens when the same thing happens and a team bottoms out and is stuck in the suck in the smaller league? They contract more teams until they're left with the Lakers and Celtics? It's just the way sport is. Some teams take longer than others to turn things around.

That was a stupid thing to say, LeBron. You are stupid.

What's the point of having 20 teams that are all stacked? That's what the all star game is for. The point of having plenty of teams is so that fans from anywhere can go to a game. I guess if TV ratings and predetermined "classic franchises" (Lakers, Knicks, Celtic's, etc) were the only thing's that mattered, it'd be a great idea. But take into account ticket sales and individual team merchandise sales, I can't imagine it being a "great thing for the league".

I'd love it if someone like LeBron or Bosh or Shaq or some other loud-mouth would agree to talk to someone like Shrink about this sort of thing. Just because a team has a crap record DOES NOT mean they would be most likely to be contracted. ESPECIALLY when that team has a decent sized market, and an owner who is chair for the board of governers AND doesn't mind spending money when necessary.

Why don't I remember LeBron saying things this stupid in CLE ?

The league is just run badly. Competitive balance is the biggest problem they have. A hard salary cap and a better arbitration system are needed, among other things.

Maybe he has a point though. If Minnesota can't keep (or win with) KG, if Cleveland can't keep LeBron, and if Denver can't keep Melo (regardless of where he ends up, he's not staying there), then why even have those teams? What purpose do they serve? The league's marquee players don't want to go there or stay there. I mean, Charlotte drafted Kobe and he forced his way out to L.A.

These teams are at a competitive disadvantage. I guess it's just like baseball where the Pirates and Royals of the world don't stand a chance, ever.

I always find the whole marquee teams thing a little strange. For example, what makes them "marquee"? The Knicks were horrible for years, Boston was pretty terrible for a few years and even the all mighty Lakers struggled for a lot of years. What happens if New Jersey or Minnesota become the new Spurs?

Short-sighted idiots seem to forget the basic foundation of competitive sports. There has to be a winner and a loser. You are exactly right, this does not change with contraction.

If Lebron wanted more parity in the league, he wouldn't have joined the Miami Heat to create a superstar team. The issue isn't that their aren't enough good players, it's that the Celtics, Heat, Lakers, are all hording the talent. Lebron's lack of intelligence is shining here. He is the catalyst to the problem.
