Good point. Seems to further reinforce the idea that The Russian's elves are the ones putting this Andre Miller noise out there.

And weren't they pushing No Sharrington yesterday? Miller and Harrington = Blueprint For Greatness.

Unlike Wojina, Spears is a quality reporter with real information instead of rabid biases.

He, like Berger and Sheridan, is hearing that the Nets are a no-go for Melo. For now, that's what I believe too.

I forgot how stupid Melo used to look. Those are worse than Bosh's used to be.

well this is further proof that the nets can't get him to agree to an extension without putting together a competitive roster, which to me is an impossible task. why would they bother trying to do all these other moves if they didn't already know he won't go there as they stand right now.

Harris is better than Miller. So they're going to try to use picks or whatever to try to get ole-man Miller. How are they going to get the other quality player?

Thank the Lord for Donnie. I think Melo thinks highly of Felton, in addition to how he feels about Amar'e. He said something positive about Felton earlier in the season.

Little off topic...Putting my own interests and biases aside, the Nets pursuing Melo bothers me because it's just bad team management. Now don't get me wrong, I hate the Nets and I hope they continue to fail and give 35 million deals to the Travis Outlaw's of the world but they actually do have a good thing going that Thorn left them.

Pursuing Melo is the dumbest thing they could do basketball wise. They just need to keep building. Why purge all your assets when you can just slowly build through the draft and keep your cap flexibility with the abundance of picks and cap space that you have? And if a trade presents itself where you can get a big time player without gutting your entire team, then do it. But they're trying to give up way too much here for a team that won't be ready to compete and for a player that can't carry a team alone on his back. They are very young and there shouldn't be a rush.

They are going nowhere with Melo or without Melo. They already knocked out the frontcourt, which is very difficult. Favors and Lopez complement each other perfectly. Now they need a wing player that can get his own shot or create for others or a real PG like a Kyrie Irving as the next piece. They are looking at a top 4 pick this year so getting one of those players is very possible. They should just wait until 2012 when the next big FA class comes and try to make their splash there once they move to Brooklyn and the current core is more ready to compete. Or they can make a trade next season using their flexibility and picks without giving up too much. They have so many options and I just don't think Carmelo is the right one for them now. Because after they acquire Carmelo, how are they going to improve that team?

The Russian is going to ruin that team, because you know he's the one in King's ear telling him to get it done. The way the team is currently constructed, it makes no sense to make a push for Carmelo now other than selling jerseys and trying to steal the NY market, which is going to take a lot more than Melo. There are 3 generations of Knick fans in this area. They need to build their own fanbase with the casual fans, Brooklyn natives who have no allegiances since the Dodgers bolted and the foreign community in Brooklyn. /rant

Great post.

I said something similar during the offseason. They have a couple of nice pieces there, with a good coach to teach them. Getting Melo will just gut them of their team and surround a Star player around medicore talent.

The nets also shouldnt have made a bunch of panic moves this offseason when they missed out on Lebron and Co. They could still be a lot under the cap and could have spent it else where. Its a good thing most of them are only signdd to 2 year deals.

Agreed completley. I wonder how Nets fans feel about trying to get Melo.

The part where I thought about recently was how you stated they should wait to make a splash in 2012 when moving to Brooklyn. Makes a lot sense since thats when guys like CP3 and Deron are FAs and can be intriued by BK. Might as well just wait and build thru te draft.

I think that's what it's been the whole time. All the rumors, yet none of them involving the team he actually wants to go to. Denver saying they don't like what we have. t's all designed to make Melo feel resigned to his fate. We'll find out soon enough if he's up to the task of holding firm and giving up some money. He very well may not.

It was already a given it was a no-go. Denver and NJ trying to play the Knicks and it's not working.

If we got Melo and kept Gallo Chandler and Fields how would it work rotationwise?
