7 years and 50 million each. All over TSN and Sportsnet.

WOW those are insane contracts!! :o

Edit: It says on TSN that Drury is at 5 years for $35 million. $14 million for two players. I think I'd rather have Vinny/St. Louis at that price.

Also, at $7 million each for these guys, is Joe Thornton only slightly more skilled than either of them? At 7.5 million for 3 seasons, Joe looks like a bargain now.

Lots of money they shelled out. But they end up with two great players.

Didn't you hear about how Edmonton is the second worst place players want to play for? Im dead serious hockeynews asked a bunch of guys and Edmonton was second.

Buffalo was first incase you are wondering.

 I am the utter definition of shock.

Nah, I'm (or was, rather, before I found out about the Pitkanen deal) bitter because it almost seems like a pretense for the pre-salary cap days when the richest large-market teams could just buy the best players available with no real care for the money spent, and the smaller teams had a much more difficult time contending due to the gigantic gap between the richer teams. That's not quite the case yet, but if the cap keeps rising as it has, some owners could find success too expensive for their tastes

So, first Nashville pulls a Florida Marlins-esque firesale, now Buffalo?

Wasn't Buffalo's fault. They offered Drury the same exact contract but Drury just wanted to be closer to his home in Connecticut.

Briere, overpayed.

They may have slightly overpaid but thats what it takes to get players of that quality to switch teams. Also, both Drury and Gomez are great all round players who do not just put up numbers but also play both ways, finish their checks and step it up when the team needs. New York will be an elite team next season, no doubt about it.

Someone needs to offer Lundqvist an offer sheet fast before New York is allowed to lock up Shanny, Cullen and Avery too. If they can somehow find to bring all these guys back and stay under the cap, they are going to be scary.

You can't send an offer sheet to someone who has filed for arbitration (just look at how fast the Rangers filed after the Vanek situation)

Wow, NYR is stacked, and ready for a cup run. Actually next few cups.
