I agree.
It definitely isn't Thabeets fault they are where they are. Gasol hasn't played up to last years standard, Mayo has seemingly been a slump all season so far, Conley looks like he is playig better but in reality he isn't making his teamates or team better as the floor general, Gay has been marginally better but can't put the team on his shoulders, and only Randolph has kept his career standards. The bench has yet again let them down. So it's not like they can say let's get equal value for Thabeet and our issues will be solved, or at least improved.
So the question is if they do deal Thabeet, what will they get in return that will help them become better? Is there a backup center, or combo center/power forward that will give them stability, defence, and some bench scoring? I don't see teams dealing that kind of player for Thabeet.
Is memphis just ready go give up completely and take back a draft pick in return for some salary savings? Where does that get them? Nowhere but where they currently are.
It's a dilema for sure and it will be interesting to see what having the #2 overall pick in the 2009 draft ultimately yields them. My opinion, like the majority I'm sure, is that they wasted the best opportunity they had in years and it will hurt them for quite a while.
