Just one more reason why I like the NHL. Free agents actually move around, and trades actually happen

^Agreed. I want the NBA to be more like the NHL in free agency sense. Where big names get signed, and your up all night following it. Who was the biggest FA to be signed yesterday, Jason Kopono, argh.

Thanks for the info on the Svatos deal. Hopefully it comes true.

Big Market teams. Gomez makes 10 next season Jagr 8 same with Drury I believe and Souray will be 7.... this is unfair for most teams.

Souray to Rangers is just a rumor still. Haven't read anything concrete about it anywhere yet.

Also the big market advantage is much smaller these days with the cap. Everyone has to work with the cap ceiling and the Rangers just happen to have the space to sign Gomez and Drury. Add to the fact that NY is a place where alot of people wouldn't mind living in and the Rangers are a decent team, why wouldn't you want to sign there?

If it was just all about money, then Briere could have signed with Montreal where its reported they were offering $7 million a year in a longterm deal. Drury could have stayed in Buffalo making $7 million and Smyth could have made more signing with the Habs or Islanders instead of Colorado.

Looks like the Habs have picked up Bryan Smolinski for a year. Financial Terms were not disclosed.

Smolinski the newest Hab

Here's the TSN link

According to TSN, he was given a one year 2mill dollar contract with a no trade clause. The Habs needed a center so I see this as a decent signing.

Yep, my bad, I may have jumped the gun when I saw it reported.

I guess players feel they want some insured decent income in their older age.

Just maybe. But, either the Bucks or the Brewers would have to make the playoffs. And the Bucks, meh, and the Brewers are playing well this season, but they're the Brewers, so I'm used to having my hopes crushed

NYI signs Bill Guerin to a two year deal, and Mike Comrie and Tim Jackman to one year deals. Almost makes up for all the guys they lost

And when the crappy Pirates take 3 out of 4 in a series, I can see why you are used to having your hopes crushed.

Gotta watch out for the Cubbies now.

Yeah, being a Pirates fan was not that different than being a Brewers fan, but recently it's changed. I don't understand how the Pirates management can be so inept, and hope that someone with a pulse can take over that team. I thought the Pirates would improve this season and snap that losing season streak the Brewers once had, it appears I was wrong.

Oh, back to hockey, yay hockey

Buffalo will reportedly match the offer. Another example of Lowe completely screwing a team through restricted free agency
