Looks like the Zubrus to Toronto deal is over. He wants too much money and the Leafs cannot afford him. (MAS, you'll be happy to hear that!)
I think the Leafs are done for the offseason. As I've said all along Kubina and Raycroft will be back next year. Whether, they were almost traded or not, or whatever, I don't see them being moved.

I'm happy Peca may be back in the fold. He was very effective before his injury, got my fingers crossed...
We probably will make a deal for Kubina. We have a glut of defencemen and if Raycroft is dealt as well, should have lots of cap space and could add Shanahan...
Howard Berger is saying Yashin may be a bargain if he could be signed cheaply enough, even though we have lots of centers already. I'm not sure about this but he still puts up fair numbers...

If we decide to keep Kubina, a tandem consisting of him, Kaberle, McCabe, Carlo, Gill and White isn't exactly a push over. We just lack a shutdown type of defencemen.
That's what I mean though. As it stands, we have a ton of money tied up in our top 3 defencemen, but there isn't a shut down type guy among them. I know they aren't exactly easy to find, but when you have that much money invested in your defencemen, they should be better defensively than ours are.

I think its fair to expect that White, Colliacovo, Kubina and McCabe will be better this year (the first two becuase of their progression in this league and that latter two becuase they had off years last year). That said, you could see Strallman make the team, which added to Kaberle makes 6 D already.
If McCabe can play worth a lick in his own end this year, our D will improve this year. I think we will have a good group based on what we have to work with and the surpplus should help address some deficiencies up front.

I guess the guy who I'm getting this from doesn't know his stuff...
I heard Peca in an interview today say that his first choice is to sign back with the Leafs.....but it seems the Leafs organization are showing no interest.....sad.
He's the glue guys great teams need. Examples....Sami Pahlsson, Mike Fisher, Kris Draper, Derek Roy..etc. Leafs are making a big mistake not even considering the guy. Give him a 1 yr/1 million deal with incentives....good enough for me.

There are likely a couple teams interested in Raycroft, including the Wings, Blues and Coyotes. However, if JFJ feels he isn't getting enough in return, he won't think twice about keeping Raycroft. I honestly think he's more than comfortable with allowing the two goaltenders to split duties this season, and it'll provide more stability in net. With the current FA market thinning out, this seems like the route he's going to choose, unless he can pull off trades to further improve the roster.

It is a damn shame the Leafs are not showing interest. He's the type of player they need to truly make the playoffs.
Not that I'm happy with where this team is headed, but in the short-term, Peca, Tucker and Blake could be key to getting teams off their gameplan and just keep pestering the other team.
