Week 17: Bears Lead-Up

Post#1 » by LUKE23 » Mon Dec 27, 2010 1:46 pm

Well, doesn't get much better than this. Beat the Bears to get into the playoffs in the last week of the season at Lambeau. Bears are playing for a bye, Giants/Skins play at the same time so there will be no scoreboard watching in terms of preparation. Need to win.

Hopefully Jenkins is back for this game. Just keep shutting down the run and make the Bears one-dimensional. Cutler is due for a high turnover game.

We need to capitalize on Cutler's reckless passes. We can't drop easy interceptions like we did against the Pats.

Did they bump the Giants Redskins game to 315 also?

Love how Sports Center is saying "And now the Packers control their own destiny." We controlled it last week too, but they didn't care to mention that because everyone assumed the Giants would beat us.

Not sure if it was mentioned, but the Packers are the 4th in penalties this year. That's nice considering the Packers were the worst in the league last year. The last Bears game got me to wondering what our penalty situation looked like

Twirl did a good job of breaking down the tie breakers, for anyone curious:

trwi7 wrote:Okay I'll break it down.

If all three teams are tied at either 10-6 or 9-7 it would go to a three team tiebreaker. These are the order of three team tiebreakers.

Head-to-Head: Doesn't apply

Best won/loss/tied percentage of division games: Doesn't apply

Best won/loss/tied percentage in common games, minimum of 4: Doesn't apply. Each team has to have at least four common games with the two other teams. The only common games between the three teams are the Redskins and Lions. That's three each for the Giants and Packers and two for the Bucs. No team meets the minimum of 4, much less all three which has to happen for the tiebreaker to take effect.

Best won/loss/tied percentage in conference games: Each team would finish 8-4 or 7-5 for the three team tiebreaker so that's out.

Strength of victory: This is where the Packers would win. I don't feel like adding up all the totals of wins and winning percentage, but the Packers would win by a fairly comfortable margin.

If it's a tie between the Bucs and Packers.

Head-to-Head: Doesn't apply

Best won/loss/tied percentage within conference: They would be 8-4 in this scenario.

Best won/loss/tied percentage in common games, minimum 4: Both teams would be 2-3.

Strength of victory: Packers would dominate since the Bucs have pretty much beaten no one this year.

Against the Giants the tiebreaker would be head-to-head which we just won.

My first game in several years this week. These next six days are going to drag.

I was talking to my brother about this last night. You would have to pay me quite a bit to go to a Packer game, especially in the winter. Between the weather, the drive home on a Sunday night and the awesomeness that is a Packer party just doesn't make the games worth it to me.

Yeah. :(

I usually get tickets every two years or so. It just sucks to go up to Green Bay during the winter. Last time I went it ended up snowing real bad and the drive home was absolutely awful. I ended up getting home at like 3 in the morning and I had to work the next day.

It's always a lot of fun, just not something that I can do all of the time.

In general, I agree somewhat, but it also depends on the game. If its a big time game and the stadium is charged, I'd rather be there, even in winter. The tailgating is second to none. I'm taking Monday off too, thankfully.

We need to start a QB controversy, IMO.

Matt Flynn should start this game, he would dominate. :P

Nothing compares to being at Lambeau. I don't care what the weather is like or how big of a TV you have.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

The last game I went to was Favre's first return. I remember being supremely pissed off when I got there and found out that instead of doing our own tailgating, our whole family was part of some massive group tailgating put on by a business or something. It came with the tickets we got. Food and drinks were included. It was terrible.

But even with good weather the drive home was awful. Just three plus hours of depression.

If I had a hotel room and didn't have to work the next Monday, though, I'd prolly feel somewhat different.

Well, there must be some, albeit very far-fetched, way we don't make the playoffs with a win on Sunday. Click on Packers and it says:

"COMMENT: Pretty simple for the Packers: Win in Week 17 vs. Chicago and only a odd alignment of planets would keep them out."

There is none. Literally no scenario where we win next week do we not make the playoffs. The only question would be if it's the 5th or 6th seed and even that might be decided tonight.

There is no scenario where we can miss. We win every single one-team or multiple team tiebreaker in the NFC.

Bigby is hurt again. Shocker.

It was victory Monday at Lambeau Field, but coach Mike McCarthy's attention was already on the Chicago Bears, the team the Green Bay Packers must beat to guarantee themselves a playoff berth.

McCarthy said his team has to look at it like a seven-day season and pour everything into this game without looking ahead to anything else. He said he was unaware of any playoff scenarios other than the Packers need to get a victory to clinch a playoff berth.

"We need to get to 10 wins," McCarthy said. "Nothing else matters. We're focusd on winning No. 10."

The Packers (9-6) and Bears (11-4) will meet Sunday at 3:15 p.m. at Lambeau Field. The game was originally scheduled for noon, but the NFL moved it Sunday to a later time so Fox could show it to a wider audience.

The Bears found out today that the Eagles-Cowboys game next Sunday will also be moved to 3:15 p.m. That's significant because the Bears might have known prior to kickoff with the Packers whether they had clinched the No. 2 seed.

Now, unless the Eagles lose at home to Minnesota Tuesday night, they will not know if they have the No. 2 seed wrapped up. In that case, Bears coach Lovie Smith would undoubtedly play his starters all game and put maximum effort into beating the Packers.

Here are other tidbits from McCarthy's Monday news conference:

FB Korey Hall (knee) and S Atari Bigby (groin) are both out for this week. Bigby played most of the first half ahead of Charlie Peprah but left in the second half and didn't return. This is Bigby's third significant injury this year.

Said he really likes the mindset of the team. "It's the most resilient team I've had," he said.
Thought that LT Chad Clifton played a great game. He thought RT Bryan Bulaga was solid but had a couple of minuses. He said Bulaga will continue to improve. The game plan allowed for Bulaga to get help on DE Justin Tuck.

Liked the number of rushing attempts the offense has had the last two weeks. He said that's the vision of the offense, although he would like more production.

Said John Kuhn is playing the best football of his career. He got a game ball for offense and special teams, which he can't remember happening before.

Kuhn and Aaron Rodgers got the offensive game ball; B.J. Raji and A.J. Hawk got the defensive game ball; and Kuhn and Brandon Underwood got the special teams game ball. Jarrett Bush got the big hit of the game.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
