Blaine Gabbert

The Niners once again must rebuild. They need a new front office staff, a new coach, and of course a new QB. Todd McShay take on Gabbert: http://kansascity.sbnation.com/missouri ... ments=true

Gabbert has put up major numbers, like Chase Daniel did, but, unlike Daniel, he's got the NFL size. He's 6'5" and 235 pounds which is Peyton Manning size. Having the right size, and the arm strength which Gabbert clearly has, is usually the first obstacle in looking at the draft. He's got those things down.

Now he can focus on having a big time junior season as Mizzou. But at some point, the questions will start coming more often and at some point he'll have to make a decision.
Pinkel's last two quarterbacks -- Chase Daniel and Brad Smith -- stayed at Mizzou their entire careers. But neither of those guys are the prospect that Gabbert is.

The Niners could trade down to the middle of the first or in the early 20's to get him. Also trade or sign for a solid vet, some have mention McNabb, maybe Kolb, Miami's Henne, Lions' Stanton, Carson Palmer, and so.

I'd like to target Kolb and maybe take a corner with our 1st or take a QB anyway.

I read in an article that Kolb would cost a first round pick and I would not be willing to give up a top ten pick for Kolb. I think probably best option is to sign a quarterback who we just intend for a couple of years to start and then we are able to draft a quarterback who can learn the ropes. For me Orton might be the best option.

Way too high of a price for Kolb. I wouldnt mind giving a 2nd and 4th. That woukd be the absolute most Id go. Still a stretch since we're sitting at 7.

I wouldn't trade a day one or a day two draft pick for Kolb, (meaning nothing in the first 3 rounds)

I'd rather start Troy Smith than overpay for Kolb.

Most of the likely available QB's don't seem to be better choices than Troy Smith.

I would easily give up a third rounder for Kolb. I think he has shown enough potential for that. But there is no way he goes for anything less than a high number two.

As for Troy Smith, I do not believe he is the answer but I could be wrong. He had a lot of good plays and could certainly become at least to the level of what we need in a quarterback. Yet if you watch him play I am not sure if he fits our system. He made some big plays but many were really risky and dumb that just turned out well. I would rather get a quarterback who might not make as many big plays but who is more accurate and better decision maker.

Troy Smith may or may not be the answer, but Kolb definitely isn't in my mind.

The facts are this Jim H will groom a quarterback and run the ball. With that being said we have two options out there. Those two options are not Blaine, McNabb, or Kolb because none of the above are mobile. McNabb used to be but is not anymore. Are line is a young great run blocking line. But like most young lines that run block great they don't pass block great. So are two options are draft Cam Newton or trade for Tebow. With the labor issues trading for Tebow is to hard because we won't be able to trade draft picks.
