What are your plans with Lorbek and Barac?

Post#1 » by re49gb_2gho32fp » Mon Dec 20, 2010 4:24 pm

With Hibbert establishing himself as a legit starter in the league, and will i assume average 35-37mpg the season after this, what are Pacers motives with the euro big men Erazem Lorbek and Stanko Barac? Both are really skilled and are putting up good to great numbers. I think Barac could definitely play C in NBA and Lorbek probably as well. Who's your backup now, Foster? What's the idea with him after this season?

The reason why I'm asking is due to some informations spreading around european media that Barac is likely to leave for the NBA next season.

I would assume when they are ready we will bring them over and see what they can do. We need a legit PF and a back up center. Foster can still play but he is just about past his prime so is Lorbek and Barac can show they can play, they will give us good and cheap options

It would be nice if just one of them panned out. Larry really doesn't have a lot invested in them, with exception to the 2nd round picks he used to select them. I like the fact we can let them grow in Europe w/o wasting a roster spot.

I'd advocate selecting foreigners with future 2nd round picks just because we don't have to bring them over immediately. It's somewhat of a crapshoot, but well worth it when you hit.

I watched the last game of Barac and i just have to say "We need him"

He has good moves in the post, good shoot range but defensively maybe he has problem in NBA

cheap? You realize we'd have to buy out their contracts from their euro team/pay them more than those teams. Hardly cheap options.

Why do you think we haven't brought them over yet? They're not even a consideration until their contracts are up, and at that point, we'll probably make something like 2yr/$5-7 million offers. Maybe 3 yr/$7.5-10 million. Dirt cheap? No. Very affordable if they're role players? Certainly.

I doubt Lorbek will play in NBA, he's paid well in Europe and his game is not all that good for NBA, specially if you'd want him to be a garbage man that hustles, rebounds and plays defense.

I agree. I think Lorbek has reached an age when he now longer fits our plans. I suppose he could get thrown into some trade but I don't see him as a Pacer. Barac is another matter.

I would love nothing more than to see Lorbek here next season, but it's looking less and less likely.

Barac has a decent new contract so I suspect we'll be waiting for him.

Barac's contract expires 11/12. But i think i read somewhere there's an option after this season.
