DEN still wants cap space?

Post#1 » by shrink » Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:32 pm

"One source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to speak on it, thought the Denver Nuggets were close to shipping Carmelo Anthony to the New Jersey Nets last week. That was stalled after the death of Anthony's sister.

"The Cavs could be a third team involved in such a deal, but they would require at least one draft pick in exchange for making the salaries fit using their trade exception."

CLE, SAC and MIN are the three teams who could easily take DEN out of the lux in a Melo trade.

This rumor only reinforces my belief that getting under the lux (and saving about $25 million dollars), is one of DEN's conditions in a Melo trade. That's good news for us.

I'd help DEN if we could get at least one of these two players: Afflalo or Lawson, but DEN and their fans are heavily invested in them.

Afflalo would be a good addition, defense and threes are nice. :)

He would, but moving Melo means they're folding their current hand and moving onto the next one. Afflalo and Lawson are part of their future.

Afflalo is a RFA, meanign he would have to be resigned. He could be one of those guys that gets a Reddick/Matthews like extension. I like Afflalo, but I'm not sure if I like him for $7M/year.

I'd be fine with absorbing some salary, assuming that it's useful and there's nothing better available. I'd honestly prefer a veteran or too rather then another youngster though. Maybe Billups or Murphy?

agreed, and If we had to swallow a contract like that, I'd rather have Reddick anyways. Would likely be easier to get than Matthews or Affalo too.

OJ Mayo is one of the best defenders in the league, hes a two way player and hes a great passer and playmaker.

Major points for creativity. If Bynum didn't have an awful injury history I would do that.
But I'm more comfortable with Darko at this point.

I wouldn't. Bynum can't stay healthy, makes $12M/year, and his impact when healthy isn't much greater than Darko's, if even.

Take Billups. He is a vet leader, solid defender and shooter. Get rid of Flynn/Ridnour and move forward.

I would stick with Darko for the same reasons - he costs us 1/3 of what Bynum makes and doesn't have legs that explode annually.

Agreed, Wolves need a leader and winner, with Beasley, adding Melo would be redundant.

Looking at the advanced stats there's not a huge difference between Billups and Ridnour

I think Aflalo would be a great fit next to Beasley. I doubt Denver is trading him though, a shame

My opinion is that they don't need him for the stats, they have two stat stuffers in Beasley and Love, but they need someone who can bring a winning culture and hit game winners. Billups is the man. He can teach those guys how to win.
