The next "guy"

Post#1 » by ndnow » Tue Dec 28, 2010 11:20 pm

Normally by this time in a superstars lifespan in LA, the lakers have found there next "guy". Whether it be by getting a draft from another team for a player like Kobe, or trading for a guy like Shaq.

I don't see this happening at the moment and kobe is on the backside of that proverbial mountain. Is there a player I don't know about in the lakers system or someone that the team has eye's on to maintain the lakers domination of the league?

Or is it too early for them to think about this considering how they are two time champs? Also how would the LA fan base react to having a mediocre team for a decade without a superstar in town?

I've been thinking about this a little too, and honestly I think they have plans on going after Howard if the Magic fail to get a ring. idk why but I actually thought we were in the running for Melo at one point in time. Yeah I know very wishful thinking lol

I could see thinking about this if we we're a losing team, but we have won back to back titles with these players, and have a good chance of winning a third so I'll hold off for now.

Buss has always been proactive from a management and development standpoint which puts him ahead of the rest. He understands that a team needs a mystic to bring players in and he knows to get the mystic you have to stay competitive. Meaning you go for your next talent while your team is still on top, which leads me to my original question.

The lakers as an organization seem to draw the best players to them with little work, I wouldn't be surprised to see dwight in a lakers uni also.

generally, and usually, the LAKERS build from the middle. wilt. kareem. shaq. even a half hearted attempt with a guy like vlade. if that trend continues, we could possibly see a bigman. some say dwight or others, so its up in the air but it is a trend nevertheless.

to me, MELO is a SUPERSTAR stuck in denver. doubt it though because too many factors involved, and one big factor is NO ONE wants to give the LAKERs any help.

U guys don't remember the van exel cambell and jones era?

That was a dead time for us and it was still a blast. I expect a down time after Kobe's done. But have faith.

Well, I think it's supposed to be Bynum.

I think that idea needs to be scrapped. I don't see this organization revolving around Bynum.

Lakers will get Dwight Howard or some dominant player. It's inevitable.

i have also been thinking about this for sometime now - i've been following kobe since he entered the league and have been really happy to see him progress into the type of player he is today...

but in the coming yrs.... his going to have to take a backseat and we need to make way for the 'next' big thing in LA.... i do hope it is D12 that would be something.... who would u guys want to replace kobe as the 'go to guy' ....

Wasn't Bynum supposed to be your next guy there? This guy of yours claims that the 2010 Finals would not have reached seven games had he been healthy. Perk was not there the last two. This guy of yours contends that the 2008 Finals should have gone to the Lakers if he played in the series. Wow, is he insulting PJ Brown.

Anyway, Shaq and Perk are waiting for this guy of yours should the Lakers limp to the 2011 Finals. Sorry, but up to this point of his career, Shaq still owns your guy.

With the way the system is structured, I think we are going to have to look at drafting our next big thing. That, of course, means that we are going to miss the playoffs for some period of time to get those high picks. Young stars these days don't seem to have any patience with rebuilding teams and always want to sign with a contender.

lol, it was never supposed to be Bynum.

I'm confident that Kupcake can pull another heist, stealing Dwight Howard.

I sure can dream...

Drafting him as a 17-year-old and having Kareem work with him leads me to believe that at one time Bynum was supposed to be the next "guy". If he wasn't ever supposed to be, then we would've selected Danny Granger.

It's not as outrageous as some people here seem to think.

No, I agree. The Lakers have a history of drafting/trading very well for young superstar talent that may fly under the radar to a degree. But I also think that Bynum's injury history is a pretty significant factor in this.

I agree at one point in time Bynum was going to be the next "guy" but I think his string of injuries these past years have taken him out of that discussion. As far as Paul, Deron, or Love, Love is a possibility, Paul will probably end up in NY, and I thought that Deron hates the Lakers. Could be because we're rivals though..
