Min/Mem - Mayo to Minny

Post#1 » by Dr Positivity » Wed Dec 29, 2010 10:41 pm

Minnesota gets:
OJ Mayo
Hasheem Thabeet

Memphis gets:
2011 Utah pick
2011 Memphis pick

Why for Memphis? Financial reasons for one. Saves them 6 milish immediately (depending on when deal gets made + prorated salary), plus 9 mil next year which vastly helps them resign Marc Gasol without sweating. They get Utah's 25ish pick and their own pick back, which they likely would've given up in 2012.

Why for Minnesota? They're apparantley interested in Mayo to put beside Beasley and Love, they give Thabeet some minutes. They use the capspace and picks they got for Jefferson, to get Mayo.

So the wolves are cutting gaines and Koufas in that scenario? Seems like a waste of money. I really have no interest in Mayo. We already have enough wings anyways.

Meh. I guess I'd be OK with that, but Berger's "Mayo-to-MIN" rumor may be false. I like the writer, but I don't think he did his homework on this article.

Let me link an even less reliable source: Hoopsworld.

Contrary to reports, TWolves are not interested in O.J. Mayo. Find out who they would like to acquire later today in the NBA PM.

That's terrible for Memphis. Mayo and Thabeet for two non-lottery picks? No thanks.

A current back-up SG who has been a disappointment and a bust C aren't worth two lottery picks. Just because the two were high lottery picks does not mean they have played remotely close to those expectations. Memphis gets its own pick back (late teens?) and the late first is more than enough for Thabeet, who isn't worth his contract.

Isn't mem trying to like win? Make the playoff and such? I'd think some how in the mayo deal they need to land someone who can do some thing for them on the court

This.

Memphis is trying to win now and make a playoff push. Giving away Mayo for a couple of mid-1st round picks only hurts them.

I think a deal around Brewer + Koufos + Memphis 1st for Mayo + Thabeet + Cash should be close. Or Koufos, Thabeet, and Cash can be taken out. This deal provides Memphis with a better backup C and Brewer is a good defender/hustle player who won't need to score playing alongside Conley, Gay, and Randolph
