Jeff Green
just watching todays game vs OKC and remembering that great triple overtime game( that we sadly lost) i got to thinking bout Jeff Green. as Ian and Jim mentioned he is a free agent at the end of the year. ive always thought he was a good player and would do a lot better away from Westbrook and Durant.
so just wondering if you guys would want the Nets to sign Jeff Green this summer??
personally i would definitely pursue him. hes a big athletic guy that can run the floor causes match up problems he can score and shoot as well as play D and he seems to play hard every night

Re: Jeff Green
Most of the Nets fans here probably wouldnt want anything to do with him unless he gets a contract of 10 years for 2 million, otherwise it will eat into cap space and ruin our chances at signing Tyler Hansborough when we miss out on all the GOOD free agents as usual. The Nets are gonna win less than 20 games this year, 20 games next year and then off to Brooklyn. No more basketball in New Jersey.....

I like Jeff Green but he's going to get way overpaid.

What's your point?
If we had it your way we would load up on overpaid mediocre players and contend for 38 wins for the next 6 years.
And honestly, Jeff Green isn't that good.
He's a tweener that shouldn't do much more then he is now on a good team, just a solid glue guy that can go off every now and then.

I think he's worth 8 to 10 a year.
I think he'll get 14.

Well if Outlaw is getting paid 7 million dollars per year for the next 5 years..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................Then Green will probably sign a max contract with the Clippers

Oh so one post ago you like him and now hes mediocre? If it was my way the Nets would be trading away players that have been contributing to a 9-23 season for proven players. And I wouldnt sit around and let free agency pass while great players sign elsewhere in the hope we will get that .000001 percent chance of signing arguably the best player. I dare you to tell me the Nets are better off without Amare. I DARE YOU! Put him on this team and we have 20+ wins so far this season. Look what hes done with New York and theres no way they have better weapons than us.

I would take him or Chandler if it meant never seeing Outlaw again.
The problem is he's restricted but Chandler could be unrestricted. I'd give him 5 years at 40.

I'm sorry, but am I not allowed to like good players?
Must every player I'm a fan of be a star?
Jeff Green is not a great player by any stretch of the imagination either, but when did I call him mediocre? Taking me out of context. He is just good, if not close to pretty average anyway.
And I would trade away a majority of this roster in a heartbeat if we could get good and proper return or in the case of any of the guys we recently signed minus Morrow, just expiring contracts for them.
Again, what does that have to do with the issue at hand?
Amar'e? I don't know, I admit I'm eating some crow, but at the same time, I just don't see him lasting out that contract and if he doesn't, that is the type of contract that is literally a franchise crippler, if not killer.
I know exactly what we would do if you had it your way, we would deal away draft picks and expirings for Iguodala, Favors for LMA, etc. and wind up with an 8th seed with no way to improve that isn't even a lock to be a perennial playoff team anyway.
Everything about your way of thinking and posts is knee jerk extraordinaire. I get it.

I'm actually liking Green's development. But one, I agree that he will be overpaid (though perhaps the CBA will put a stop to that). Secondly, I believe he's a RFA.

For one whose LMA? Lemarcus Aldridge? And a knee jerk reaction? No my friend. If the Nets were in the playoffs that last couple years and then were as bad as they are now then yeah it would be a rash decision. But this team has been at the bottom of the league for the past 3 plus years and show no signs of moving forward. Im pretty sure youre just using Iggy as an example, but I would trade a 2nd round pick for the guy if not a low first rounder. Shoot the Nets already traded number 27 and 31 to move up to 24 and it got us Damion James. Still too early to judge the kid but you cant tell me youd be upset if those two picks were dealt for Iggy instead. Hes not an all star but hes no doubt above average and has the athleticism this team desperately needs.

Re: Jeff Green
id still rather have jeff green in a bad contract and take my chances than settle for tyler hansbrough haha... and as far as lamarcus aldridge is concerned i dont know if you guys have seen him play lately but he is definitely an all star caliber PF who is young and is improving rapidly and has tasted the playoffs. if we could combine jeff green, lamarcus, and melo i think that sets us up to match up well with the other elite eastern conference teams if other pieces can fall into place

Re: Jeff Green
I've watched every game Jeff Green has played since his rookie year and I think he'd be great on the Nets, especially under a coach like Avery Johnson who will re-instill defensive fundamentals into him. He's a natural SF, he has quick feet and can guard perimeter players very well. He also has a post up game, which he does not get to employ much in OKC since he's usually guarded by opposing PF's.
I don't think he'll get more than 5/50 on the open market. OKC probably won't match anything over 5/40.

hes a unrestricted free agent though so it doesnt matter if they will match or not cuz they didnt tender his contract for next year so hes really up for grabs.

Yeah exactly. So what if he gets slightly overpaid? Hes still a better player than any of the other Nets small forwards. Its not like hes going to get a max contract. What needs to be realized is that until this team shows some signs of life nobody is going to want to sign here long term unless they were drafted or acquired via trade with a few years left on their contract. It doesnt make sense to keep passing on high quality players because they might get overpaid and hope to sign the best of the best. The best players will not sign a long term contract with a bad team, they dont care about money they care about winning. Bring in guys that can ball and show the league youre a team to be feared.

Re: Jeff Green
Green could be a nice piece at the right price for someone like the Nets. He is a solid starter but for okc he is nowhere near the answer for a starting for. I have no interest in keeping him unless he takes 7 mil and comes on as a 6th man, at this point Harden is proving himself and should take Greens place as the 3rd option .

Re: Jeff Green
Yeah, I'd definitely like him here with the Nets as a SF. I think he's good enough to play at the 3 and he's an improvement over Outlaw/Vujacic.
