Bulls Fan - What is up with Corey Brewer

Post#1 » by CJE » Thu Dec 30, 2010 6:12 pm

We are looking for a SG. Corey Brewer has regressed this year. Is it him or is it that he is a bad fit in Minnesota. Is he worth taking a chance on and have there been any talks to trade him?

He went from the #1 SG/SF to the #4 SG/SF = Way less minutes but when he is on the court you have to give him credit for his hustle. He just has no shot

He is not the SG you are looking for. (Does Jedi hand gesture)

Yeah, he's just not a great shooter, period. He's a hustle guy who gets some circus shots in the lane and draws some fouls. He is assumed to be available for trade since the Wolves didn't pick up his option for next year.

No, no, these guys are all lying. Brewer is awesome, and has oodles of untapped potential - yea, thats it- and is just a bad fit. You definitely want to trade for him since I just know that he will improve his shooting dramatically with a change of scenery and be awesome for the bulls.

....think of Corey Brewer as a the shooting guard version of Joakim Noah. He can play good defense, has great length and plays with immense energy. The problem is that his shot is REALLY broken and SGs who can't shoot are hard to keep on the floor.

*future pick* would be an issue.

Brewer+Utah pick for Gibson could be interesting. Gives the wolves a better defender at a needed position, and gives the Bulls a starting SG.

Rev - I've seen 100 posts about Gibson, but I'm not sure where the MN demand would come from. He won't start, so are we really using him to upgrade over Tolliver? If so, he would be great off the bench, but I don't know that the gain is so big that I would give up much to get him.

He's about the same as he was last year, but he lost his jumper over the summer. He hit a respectable percentage last year, but it looks to be gone now. He's likely available but doesn't seem to be what the Bulls should be looking for (although he'd be an upgrade over Bogans).

I think the logic is that he would be an upgrade, but similar to Tolly. If anything, it would let Tolly play more 5, IDK. Gibson is young, more willing to bang in the trench. He would bring similar tools as SideShow bob.

Losing Brewer and the Utah pick are not big pieces to me. Brewer is the 4th wing and likely gone anyway. Gibson would be a very good 3rd big as a hustle defender.

Sorry to be the pragmatist, but (for good reasons) no way the Bulls trade Gibson for Brewer and the Utah #1.
If the contending Bulls rid themselves of Gibson, that would leave them with Scalabrine and Johnson as Boozer’s backups. :o
Also equally awful in this trade (for Chicago), it would leave them with not one but two Brewers that can’t shoot. :o
Believe me, I’m not a Bulls’ fan but let’s show a little mercy.

I'm guessing the Bulls are looking to add the best 3 point shooter they can get without given up Gibson.

Agreed. CHI is a contender and needs Taj. But they need production too - they just can't pay much. If MIN goes and gets Anthony Randolph ..

CHI GETS: UTA 1st + Brewer + Tolliver + $0.9 mil cap space

MIN GETS: CHA 1st + Asik + Johnson + Bogans + cash

WHY FOR CHI?: Brewer's not great, but he's an upgrade over Bogans, and he has the potential to be a good player, especially reuniting him with Noah. CHI gets the free agent rights, if they want to keep him, and with their low salary, they may want to.

Tolliver has been very productive for MIN, and may be harder for Wolves fans to let go of. When he's back, he'd provide some size and professionalism that they can use for the play-offs when they face teams with lots of bigs.

The extra cap space brings CHI up to about $1.6 mil in cap space, that can now get a useful vet min player from another team. The UTA 1st could help in a trade.

Bulls reduce the value of their pick to help this season, move three low-value pieces with extra salary next year, and get a lesser pick. This also keeps Taj.

WHY FOR MIN? Brewer has had his chance here, but Kahn went in another direction at the draft, adding Wes Johnson, Webster, Hayward and then Beasley. He may struggle for minutes, and that may reduce his trade value. Tolliver would be harder to give up, because of the nice job he's done here, however Randolph would need AT's minutes to have any chance of cashing in on his potential.

MIN gives up a little cap space, and the UTA pick, but the CHA pick is a big upgrade. Asik really needs more time to get ready for the NBA, and with JJ's turnovers, he looks like he may never get it. It's weak prospects, but the real reason to do the deal is for the less-protected CHA pick.

why does everyone hate on Brewer's shot? It has improved immensely since he entered the League. It arcs, he snaps his wrist, and he usually makes the ones that matter or when he is wide open. He has poor shot selection not poor shot mechanics.

Brewer is good if you are looking for a hustle player who can occasionally get steals and will take the charge every time. He isn't the SG you are looking for as I see the same traits in Corey as I see in Ronnie.

Corey has a decent corner 3pt shot and awkward takes to the rim.

If this were true I'd have no complaint (I had no complaint last year when it was true), but this year Brewer's shooting 33.8% in spot-up situations.

I personally would love to see Corey Brewer in a Bulls uniform, he would fit their style perfectly. A few reasons:

-He would be reunited with Noah
-He is better than both Ronnie Brewer and Keith Bogans
-The Bulls Coach loves defensive minded energy guys
-He would be running with one of the best PGs in the league in Rose
-He would have alot more open looks with Boozer and Noah inside

Brewer has gone from being the number one option at SG starting all 82 games last year, to now playing behind a rookie and playing fewer minutes. His shot has suffered as I feel hes forcing shots when he shouldnt be - confidence thing? Defensively, hes still bringing the same hustle as he did last year. He will give you 2 steals a game, draw a few charges, hit open shots, take it to the rim, shoots FTs at high 70s, the perfect running man for Rose. I say do it, get him to Chicago!

OK, take this with a grain of salt or propose alterations, but here's what I could come up with...

MIN out:
Corey Brewer, Sebastian Telfair, UTA pick
MIN in:
Anthony Randolph, Toney Douglas, Kurt Thomas

CHI out:
James Johnson, Kurt Thomas, CHA pick
CHI in:
Corey Brewer, Landry Fields, UTA pick

NYK out:
Anthony Randolph, Landry Fields
NYK in:
Sebastian Telfair, James Johnson, CHA pick

Why for MIN:
Randolph plus our veteran mentor in Kurt Thomas

Why for CHI:
Two shooting guards that might work out

Why for NYK:
CHA pick is one Denver might want, make it worth it for them to take Bassy.
