Exactly. We don't need another SG that can't shoot.

Brewer was just there for cap filler. Fiddle around with the trade some other way. Maybe you'd rather have Livingston or something, I don't know.

There, maybe you'd like this better. You get Taj Gibson, CJ Watson, James Johnson, and Kwame Brown (paid barely a million, replaces Thabeet). You still only give up Mayo and Thabeet.

So what exactly do you all think Memphis is looking for in return? I've seen 'promising, young PF', 'high draft pick(s)', and 'quality backup PG'.
Will they be wanting quality (i.e. one young player) or quantity (i.e. mediocre prospects and multiple picks)?
I can't imagine Memphis will be getting anything more than $.80 on the dollar back (and that may be kind) when they put him in a situation that doesn't play to his strengths and then relegate him to a 6th man role.
Chicago, Cleveland, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Sacramento, and Washington all seem to have the assets to land him as well as the need; and then New Jersey and New York have the assets/need to acquire him, but also could use him as a pawn to land Melo.

TBQH the front office was never explicitly interested in trading Mayo this season; fans have been frustrated with the team for awhile now and I think it's mostly the fans (myself included) who have created the buzz that OJ is available.
Obviously it would be the wrong time to trade OJ (since his stock is so low right now). At the same time, based on trying to keep Marc and Zbo, Heisley's promises on this team making the playoffs, wanting to put together a winner, Heisley's history of strange maneuvers, etc. it has looked like a strong possibility.
Honestly, as long as this team is sniffing the 8th spot in the west, there's no way OJ gets traded and there's absolutely no way he gets traded before the end of the season (barring a really impressive offer from another team - top 5 or 10 draft pick talent (at a position of need, like PF or SG bare minimum).
But if this team goes down the tubes and things are looking especially bleak around the trade deadline, then who knows what happens.
And the only reason OJ has been relegated to a 6th man role is to try and add some wrinkles to this team in terms of the offense, defense and the bench. It really doesn't speak to OJ's overall abilities or his potential as a starter. I think it's more a move oriented towards improving the team in the long-term. Who knows if the gamble of playing OJ off the bench works out, but the results have obviously been disappointing so far.

OJ Mayo leads the team in scoring next season - makes allstar game with ZBO and GASOL.
Tony Allen wins 6th man of the Year.
