All I want for Christmas is a 5

Post#1 » by myrak433 » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:58 pm

I have been wanting the Hawks to get a true center for the last 6 years........ or at least a prospect. can we please get one soon. at least attempt, if not in the first round..... in the second. so I propose this question to you loyal Hawks fans. Who do you think we could draft this summer that may be our Center of the future? I like Keith Benson or Fab Melo.

Most projections have Benson going in the 2nd round. If he looks good we'd just have to have the stones to pick him early or to trade down (or acquire a high 2nd) to get him. I've not seen anyone project that Fab Melo will come out at this point. Got a whole season essentially for these things to play out, so that could change.

I've been really disappointed in Sund on this count. At SEA, he acquired a reputation for hunting for big men, gambling several times. Here, he's turned down pretty fair opportunities for them.

If HOU really is looking to trade, what about Brad Miller?

Brad Miller can stretch the floor on offense, and on defense, you can't say he's not OK.
He simply don't take lots of rebounds, but he's also one of the best player at boxing out, so help the team to get rebounds, even if he doesn't get it himself.

I would trade Zaza for Miller without any problem.
And trading with HOU, I would try to expand the trade to other players.

I really believe getting a center is not the main issue right now.

We have Collins, Zaza and Powell can play there too. Also Thomas is profitable for some minutes. Twin has held his own when confronting Howard and others. He has no post game, but he is really big and has long arms. He can defend, rebound, intimidate and make intelligent plays. Of course he is anyway one of the worst centers in the L, but adding Twin's abilities to those of Zaza and Powell adds up for a good combination. Zaza, Collins, Powell, Al, Thomas and the help of JSmoove is enough IMO to not be much inferior to any one in the L, except may be the Lakers.

Then the problem for me is in other areas, of course. We probably have the best two forwards in the League in Josh and Al. We have last year's best Sixth Man and, theoretically, one of the best players in the Legue in JJ.

For me the problem is clearly in two areas: point guards and coaching. may be player's mentality is a big issue too, but this is directly connected with our coaching problems.

I am sure pretty sure this team would play dramatically different (better) if Bibby and Teague (or Bibby at least) would be substituted for another guy who may be cannot shot that much (and that well), but can get the tempo, defend, pass, run and look for fast transitions when needed. I am not talking even about a CP3 or a Deron kind of guy (just remembering how different we would be if we had just one of those two instead of Marvin makes me angry), but just a player in the Stucky, Hinrich, George Hill, Lowry, Brooks, Calderon (if Healthy) level.

Also I would love to see how this roster plays under the instructions of Popovich, Sloan, Jackson or even Carlisle, Rivers, Avery Johnson... but we decided to spent 120 mill $ in a guard who is 30 and were not able to afford a decent mid-level coach.
