I think that the Suns front office has a plan. I think they are attempting to 'stay competitive' with no real chance at doing anything, and are quietly attempting to build an arsenal around when the earth ends. (2012)
Nash will be gone, Hill will be gone, Vince will be gone.
This is what I think they want the core to be to lure free agents in.
Dragic - Dudley - Gortat - Lopez - Frye +plus anyone they pull out of the draft in the next 2 were-not-tanking-but-we-really-are-tanking years.
This list should include Childress, but I am not positive about their plans with him. I think they are assuming that these players, along with Arizona in general, will be able to get a big name in free agency.
So this will most likely be our lineup in 2012
Dragic - Dudley - insert wing here - insert legit PF here - Dwight Howard
with a bench of Gortat and Frye, at which point we will trade Lopez.
ok the last part is kind of a joke, but do the suns have a long term plan?

Re: The Suns secret plan
Why can't we get an owner that we can seriously discuss Dwight Howard or Chris Paul?
If I were a billionaire/multi-millionaire I'd buy the Suns and do whatever it takes to get a ring.

What is there to discuss when they're not free agents for a couple of years?

Re: The Suns secret plan
Yeah, I'll take the Suns sucking for two years if we ended up with Chris Paul/Deron Williams and Dwight Howard.
Obviously the Suns have solid role players but just need that superstar talent to take it somewhere.

Ya hedo didn't work because:
He needs a point guard who doesn't need the ball, and Dwight Howard

The Suns have never showed such foresight since Sarver has owned the team(and rarely before even). It is nice that they are positioned well for what looks like a strong FA class in 2012, but I'm not convinced they won't do something to blow it before then.

Sarver will screw it up some how. Just like he did the summer of 2006 when he and D'Antoni were GMs and this past summer when he was GM for the most important month a team needs a GM - free agency month.
Sarver is not cheap - just fiscally stupid. He has such a pattern of one day, saving cash and then the next day, going crazy spending money. And if he had just spent the cash in the first place - it usually would have make for a better team. I know if he pays Kerr to stay through September 1 through the free agency period, the team is better today, in better cap shape longer term and would be much better on the court.
So, I don't hold out long term hope for the Suns unless Sarver lets Babby/Blanks do there jobs and he just gives them a budget and they stick to the budget. I knew the Suns were in trouble the day Sarver thought Hakim Warrick was worth the dollars the FIRST day of free agency when Amare went to NYC. You can get "Hakim Warricks" on Sept 1. Same with Frye - Suns didn't need to pay Frye when a guy like Brian Cook is out there or even a Vladimir Radmanoiv is out there with fewer years left on his contract. Suns could have had $15m with a TPE from Amare if Sarver doesn'[t sign Warrick or Childress - are you telling me the GSWWarriors wouldn't have taken some of that for Radmanovic - I think they do if Sarver really thought the Suns needed a tall guy that can shoot three's.
But, Blanks/Babby made a solid move for Carter/Pietrus and Gortat and with that first round pick from Orlando, I think another trade will be made which will help the team - hopefully
