Orlando trade

Post#1 » by Redphilly » Sat Jan 1, 2011 11:09 am

Orlando fan here.
How do you guys feel about the trade after a couple games?
I saw Gortat and MP did already a great job the first games but now it looks Carter is a better alround player in your system than he was in Orlando.
Good luck this season.

Thanks. I still think it's too early to judge. They are playing good but the team only won one game against the crappy pistons. So we'll see.

I still think it was a really nice trade. Hedo wasn't working and had a terrible contract (for us at least), JRich was pretty much gone, and we needed a guy like Gortat. Always liked Pietrus and Carter is kind of a big expiring. So far it's good.

Gortat's passing is lightyears ahead of Rolo's passing. I absolutely love Gortat and I also love that Pietrus is fearless shooting from outside. VC has also been playing very well but I just hope that he drives a little more to the basket and keeps posting up. Finally Dragic has a decent 2nd unit to play with that can spread the floor.

Bienvenidos.

I can't speak for the board, but I'm a big fan. With such a massive overhaul in personnel, it's getting a huge mix of reactions. I'd say most are generally positive, mainly because we needed Gortat so bad. But I'm thrilled about Carter and Pietrus as well.

Yeah, I really think Carter is a great fit.

I look at the Suns trade this way - they gave up one player who was actually contributing on the offensive side of the ball (for the most part; on defense, not so much) with an expiring contract; along with a draft bust for lack of effort along with a third player who had a horrible contract for

1) a good role player in Pietrus with an okay contract -- granted another wing player

2) in Gortat, have a big body that can defend and rebound with a good contract (not an albatross like Fryes)

3) Carter - he can give what JRich can give, or close to it, granted, he will cost $4m next year

For me, this is a no brainer and its good work by Babby/Blanks to make up for the eff up that was Sarver in his 30 days as GM

This is the problem,. Sarver/D'Antoni were GMs one summer - and it took Kerr like three years to make trades and get the cap back. Sarver is GM for 30 days (if only he had paid Kerr to be GM through Sept 1 to help the transition) -- and its going to take Babby/Blanks a lot of time to put the cap back in line - meaning, two many wing players so buh bye Josh or Jared or Pietrus. Jeez Sarver - you didn't want to pay Amare but wanted to pay Josh, Frye, Hakin and Hedo - whats the different. Would the Knicks have traded Josh, Hakim, Frye and Hedo for Amare - I think so. Dumb a** owner. So fiscally stupid its beyond belief

But I like the trade. I think the Suns have a better chance of making the playoffs now then they did if they had kept the same unit.

So, I hope its a win win for both teams.

1) Hedo was a trade pickup. Hedo vs. Barbosa. Pick your poison. Hedo doesn't enter this discussion.
2) Frye is absolutely essential. Very reasonable price for what he gives us.
3) That leaves just Childress and Warrick. Warrick was a mistake. I still like Childress.

The Suns were never going to win a championship with Amare. He wasn't worth that price. But we should have resigned Lou.

At first I thought this was a one sided great trade for us. To get Gortat, Peitrus, and still get back an Expiring in VC to replace Richardson's...... AND U WANT HEDO's CONTRACT!!!!! Win for us. Now I am seeing how this is a win for both teams. Hedo is now playing the sopt he is supposed to play, getting the time on the floor he deserves, and running the show.... He looks good again. Great trade both ways.

I like the deal for both teams. The Suns got exactly what they needed in any trade, a big man, an expiring contract, and a first round pick.
I still expect one more deal to get done before February.

Lets think like Barbosa-Hedo trade have never been happened. Do you really think Orlando would be willing to make this trade with Barbosa instead of Hedo. Seriously.

Ok, now lets pick Barbs and Hedo's name out there and say JRich was their real target. Assume they only swapped Vince and JRich, plus gortat and Pietrus stayed there. Now, look at it from Orlando's perspective. Do you really think this swap shakes their things up and makes them contender again?

Yes They wanted Hedo's contract!!!

I'd assume another trade gets done involving Warrick or Childress or both.

Shame because I like Childress. Warrick is ok at times but I wouldn't mind losing him.

In terms of the Orlando trade, we have made Orlando a title contender again albeit no big men besides howard and this trade upgrades us defensively.

So far the 3 pieces have done well.

Fans in phoenix are most excited about the players in this order

1. gortat
2. pietrus
3. carter

Carter won't be here next year unless somehow he explodes here helps lead us to a playoff run deep in may or maybe june and we resign him to a 2 or 3 year deal.

Pietrus has skills as well.

Gortat is the key though. We have 2 solid centers now. Just gotta get that power forward.

looks like a good trade for both teams, orlando is very happy about it, plus they only seem to owe hedo $21mil the next 2 seasons and hes a perfect fit with the magic, i hope gortat gets a chance to start at some point or play big minutes
