Knight is an interesting case.

Here's how he has looked in his first 13 games compared to the season numbers of Calipari's previous lead guards:

Code: Select all

Player Mins PER  Pts  FGA  FG%  FTA FT%  3PA 3FG% Rebs Asts Stls Blks TOs PFs
Rose   29.2 24.1 14.9 10.9 47.7 5.1 71.2 2.6 33.7 4.5  4.7  1.2  0.4  2.7 1.7
Evans  29.0 25.7 17.1 13.6 45.5 5.2 71.1 3.4 27.4 5.4  3.9  2.1  0.8  3.6 2.4
Wall   34.8 22.2 16.6 11.8 46.1 6.3 75.4 3.1 32.5 4.3  6.5  1.8  0.5  4.0 1.9
Knight 34.0 17.7 18.0 13.4 45.4 4.5 77.6 6.2 38.3 3.5  3.9  0.6  0.4  3.8 2.4

His numbers most closely resemble Tyreke's thus far (although Tyreke was a better rebounder and got more steals). While he hasn't looked quite as good as his counterparts, he isn't that far off, and he can certainly shoot the ball better from 3. He could very well end up being a very good pick if he falls in the 7-15 range. It will be interesting to see if, and how much he improves before the draft.

Yea I mean if Knight really showed more lead pg skills he'd be a lot higher on draft boards. I think BC is going to have to lock Knight, Walker, & Selby in a gym & the better pg prospect should be our guy. Thats ofcourse if one of those SF are out of reach...

by the way, the ESPN Mock Draft page appears to be up for 2011... some very odd selections in there. There's a glitch where Al-Farouq Aminu's breakdown shows up for all players, but here's who they have in the top 14 right now:
1. Alec Burks (?!)
2. Bogdan Bogdanovic
3. Brandon Knight
4. CJ Leslie
5. Chris Singleton
6. Demetri McCarney
7. Derrick Williams
8. Donatas Motiejunas (I can't believe they have us picking him by default)
9. Elias Harris
10. Enes Kanter
11. Harrison Barnes
12. Jan Vesely
13. Jared Sullinger
14. Jeff Taylor

Wow... I wonder if they are anticipating players pulling out due to the lockout.

Espn sucks for mock drafts. nbadraft.net is definately the best along with draftexpress. I haven't even heard of some of those players

good stuff so the Raptors get to draft Harrison Barnes (because he would still be available and id be surprised to see us pass on him)? Im sold, go espn ;)

^^ yep, I'd rather stay put and draft Kanter/Barnes/Vesely than tank for Alec Burks.

burks though doesnt look all that bad. He has some upside to him but yes i know what your saying. I even think Vesley would be a good fit on this team at SF. Ideally i want this because i dont think Irving is a possibility.

- send Barbosa for expiring contracts
- sign Marc Gasol to the max (we would have the room)
- draft a SF like Perry Jones/Terrence Jones/Harrison Barnes/Jan Vesley
- see if you can re-sign Weems too for cheap, since his cap hold isnt a lot i think we could have his rights and sign Gasol to that contract.

Calderon / Bayless
Derozan / Weems
Barnes / Klezia
Bargnani / Davis
Gasol / Johnson / Alabi

+ the miami pick.

seems like a good team that should make the playoffs next season and has a nice bright future.

Have you guys watched Barnes play this year? He's been very disappointing... He's shooting 36% from the field btw... Most of the reason why people like him is based on the hype machine. Happens every year.

Yep, Barnes has not looked very impressive at all. I think Terrence Jones is definitely the best small forward prospect right now.

same thing happened with Derozan. He was touted as a top 3 pick going into the draft and then he slipped to the point where most mock drafts had him around the 13-15 range. Then he picked up his play and we picked him. I think Barnes is failed due to the system not really his overall talent. If i could pick from any of the SFs id pick Perry Jones but i dont see us being in the top 3 and i feel like Barnes is a candidate to fall to us making him a realistic option that you cant really pass up on.

Calderon
Derozan
Barnes
Bargnani
Gasol

just looks like a good team that can grow into something better.

Ya and Derozan has proven to be a ninth pick.

It makes no sense to draft a guy that high who has only played one year of very bad basketball. We can't be afford to be wrong about our lottery picks considering we aren't a FA destination. We need our picks to be great if we are to contend. RIght now Barnes looks like a bust I don't want him with a lotto pick

I would have to agree! a 6'10 guy who can handle the ball, knock down shots and pass?! I wouldn't mind that at the 3 at all!

Hes 6'10, wow I thought he was 6'8 this entire time, I think he's the type of player worth trading up for. He has the potential to dominate then on the wings for us...

He's actually listed at 6'8 my bad...

DX has him listed at 6'8", but either way I think he definitely has the size to excel at SF. He rebounds very well, can put the ball on the floor, knock down the 3 ball, and facilitate the offense. He seems to have the same kind of versatility as a Lamar Odom/Anthony Randolph type of player.

In 30.5 mpg, he's putting up 17.7ppg (45.9 FG%, 6.9 FTA, 60.0 FT%, 30.3 3FG%), 9.2 rpg, 1.9 assists, 1.2 steals, 2.0 blocks with a 32.3 PER.

Agreed 6'8 or 6'10 his play so far has been impressive. He looks like what I thought Barnes was entering into this season.

Yep, Jones>Barnes, no doubt. At this point he's my 2nd most wanted prospect after Irving (yes, even more than Perry Jones), and maybe perhaps #1 when it's all said and done. That size/skill/athleticism combo is basically what you need to succeed at a superstar level in this league.
