Why the dislike for Stann, cbr?

I ask because I know hardly anything about the guy.

Sakuraba has taken more punishment.

And I may be in the minority here but I would rather have Pettis fight Frankie next. Immediate rematches should only be given if there was a huge controversy over a decision or if one fighter got blatantly robbed. Neither was the case with this fight. Maynard didn't BEAT Frankie and we all knew going in that a draw results in the champion retaining his belt.. So why are people (not here but in general) acting as if Frankie pulled a Leonard Garcia on Gray in this fight?

This was a great fight but Gray didn't do enough to BEAT the champion, and although I think a draw was the right decision, if I was forced to pick a winner I would pick Edgar anyways.

I like to see movement in divisions, we're going to see Frankie fight two guys in his last 4 matches now, the LHW division has gotten stagnant. Pettis has a lot of hype around him right now, give him the shot and have Maynard fight Bendo (with the winner getting the title shot next).

This is true, and also relevant for other discussions about fighters making comebacks from taking tons of punishment.

Sakuraba's fight at the end of 09 (cannot remember the guy's name) was an example of a pretty amazing comeback. It went from the fight would have been stopped 4 times in the U.S. to leg lock by Saku.

Couple things to talk about from the main event...

1) Did anyone score the first round 10-7? I initially didn't, but if not, what would you have to do to earn a 10-7 round?

2) If that fight was stopped in the first round, which it probably could (not should) have been, wouldn't we be thinking of Gray Maynard as the next unbeatable monster? And we would be back to thinking Edgar can't hang with LWs and should drop down to FW.

3) If that fight was one night earlier, where does it rank in 2010's Fights of the Year? I'd probably have it top 3.

1) I had it 10-8, but believe it very easily could have been a 10-7. We don't see 10-7's much if at all. Agree with Dana, what do you have to do to earn a 10-7 rd ?
2) Yes
3)Probably top 3

I think I'm the only one on this board that scored rds 1, 3 and 5 for Gray. My buddies that I was watching fights with scored the same as me.

10-7's shouldn't even be considered in this sport imo. Even in a 5 round fight if a round is 10-7 it just means the fight should have been stopped, and the only possible way for the other dude to win is by finishing the opponent...

Watch Nunez vs Brown! Awesome stuff.

Spoilers: Nunez's kicks are the story. He was throwing in axe kicks and spinning techniques like they were jabs. Amazing. Another exciting fighter at 145. His wrestling too looked very good. He reversed a lot of TD attempts. He looked great.

This fight is an example of why 10-7s shouldn't be called. I could argue that Edgar won rounds 2-5 and one judge thought so. If the first round was scored 10-7 (it shouldn't... Edgar was coming back around the 4th minute), then all Maynard had to do was win one more round to get a decision. I agreed with 48-46 Edgar... Giving Maynard a 10-7 round would make the fight a draw, which is BS since I think Frankie won under the current constraints of the judging system. We can't start giving guys victories for winning less than 50% of the fight.

No problem with this. Vera really hasn't been much of a fighter since he came out and said he would be next to hold both LHW and HW belts a few yrs back.

Tricky to cut Vera, in that he'll definitely be of value to other organizations. Give him another stand-up fighter and he's super exciting. But there was nonetheless little choice. He was worthless on Saturday.

Davis and Baroni are already surefire candidates for puglistica dementia and all that. :( They absolutely have to retire.
