Stats hide the fact that Brown is a horrible, unintelligent player.

so yeah, i'd rather have barnes than bell.
You sure about that? Didn't we sign Theo Ratliffe for the vet's min?
Brown opted out of his 2-year contract this past offseason which was worth a bit more than the LLE. I could be wrong though.

i'm sure the lakers signed brown to the LLE last yr, so they didn't have it this off-season.
not really sure what ratliff has to do with it?

I assumed he was signed with the LLE which I thought was the same as the vet's min?
Whatever the case, it doesn't matter.

I just don't want him with the ball anymore, sit in your corner, move without the ball, just don't move WITH the ball

vet. min is something teams can use at all times to fill out their roster, not part of the LLE or MLE.

Re: Shannon Brown
I think Shannon can still be trained to be a very good player. I remember when Kobe was a rookie and everyone HATED the way he hogs the ball (+ those airballs in Utah.lol) We didn't give up on him and look where he is now. Four years ago we were saying the same thing about Odom, even labelling him "Odumb" and look where he is now. I think we should just keep Shannon and train him, he'll be an allstar one day.
On the other hand, sometimes his play reminds me of one Smush Parker

Shannon Brown is a dunker. I thought he improved his play in the beginning of the season but he's gone to his old ways. Lost in the offense and lazy on the defense. I still believe he can still be a good player.

Re: Shannon Brown
I think the hot start he had this season got him big-headed. It seems like he cares more about the crazy dunk or acrobatic block than playing team ball. He needs to realize he's not a one on one player.

Re: Shannon Brown
Biggest problem with him is that he is purely a spot up shooter, albeit a very athletic one. He seems to think he's Kobe or something, always trying to do 1 on 1. If he doesn't realize this and start passing and playing the shooter role (Ray Allen type), than I hope Phil throws him into the dog house until he realizes what his role is

I agree, but he is still putting up the better overall stats in fewer minutes, is younger (we don't need another 35 year old on the team) and at least brings some athleticism. I think his stats are boosted because of his hot start and should really only be a 10 mpg a night player or less in the ideal situation (until he either learns to play lock down D or learns to not somehow look more awkward than Artest in the offense).

Re: Shannon Brown
The worst passing instincts and basketball IQ of any Lakers guard in the past decade. If he takes a dribble inside the 3-point line, and you're wide open, just run back on defense or crash the boards.
He was taking horrible shots without even looking to pass last year, but no one cared because the team was so good. Now that we suck, the little problems have become big problems. Guess what? Shannon was always dumb as a rock, never passed the ball, and took ill-advised shots after dribbling inside without ever lifting his eyes from the floor. Give me Sasha any day of the week.

Re: Shannon Brown
Seriously, tonight play a drinking game with your friends. One guy has to take a shot every time a possession begins with Shannon dribbling anywhere inside the arc and ends with another Laker holding the ball. That guy is your DD.

Our problem isn't a lack of athleticism. Look at the Celtics. They are old as dirt, in addition to having injury issues this season, and still they are the best defensive team in the league. Not surprisingly, the Bulls are #2. It's more about coaching/schemes than it is athleticism, and you have to have players that are willing to sacrifice offense for defense, which we don't outside of Artest and Barnes. Now that our offense is suffering we look like a very average team because we can't fall back on our defense.
Regarding Brown, all his athleticism doesn't matter because he can't put it to good use. That's why someone like Raja is a bit more valuable. He's a guy that understands his role and doesn't try to play outside of his abilities. He's just a smart, solid all around player. Brown is purely a spot up shooter, and if his shot isn't falling, he's practically useless.

sorry there aren't many scenarios if any that I would ever want that scrub in a Laker uni again......#1 he is just as dumb as Brown, he chucks just as much but his chucking is wide open shots which Brown hasn't been getting now because defense is now respecting his shot, #2 Sasha was by far the worse perimiter defender on the team, he guarded non-shooters tight leading him to get burn everytime on drives and would foul 30-40 ft away from the basket, Brown might not have great handles or brake down his man on a consistent basis but I'll take his game over that Scrub Vujabrick 10/10 times, dont let his crappy ass surge in NJ affect your thinking, he just getting more shots, he sill bricking most of them.

I often wonder how much our coaching staff actually effects the game (positively or negatively). I also refuse to believe that JJ Redick can become a solid NBA role player, but Brown can't. COME ON SHANNON!

Re: Shannon Brown
There's a small difference between Redick and Brown though. Its called a brain. They've both worked on their games tirelessly the past few years, only one of them is intelligent enough to utilize it in more ways than "make more open 3's".

Re: Shannon Brown
Redick is a whole separate class of NBA player than Brown. Redick is hell of a lot more savvy than Brown. He is along the lines of a Bell or Barnes.
