The Toeaina extension may be signaling the end of Tommie Harris's Chicago Bear career.

Re: Bears sign Toeaina, Mannelly to contract extensions
Signing Toeaina before starting nose tackle Anthony Adams was an interesting move. One source said the team has tried to sign Adams and safety Danieal Manning to extensions, but the Bears have asked all parties in contract talks to be silent, and with the team heading to the playoffs, it's taboo for players to talk personal finances in the locker room.
Early money for Toeaina is another indication veteran Tommie Harris, who has started the last three games, could be on his way out. He's owed a $2.5 million roster bonus June 1.
After Mannelly, 14 unrestricted free agents remain on the roster, including center Olin Kreutz, who seems likely to get an extension. The Bears plan to continue to overhaul the offensive line in the offseason, and with no experienced options in place, bringing Kreutz back on a short-term contract is logical.
Special teams could take a hit with Corey Graham set to be unrestricted.

Good one on mannelly. I think Maynard should be extended as well.

Hopefully Mannelly doesn't decide to do a fake punt on his own in GB this week.

Unrestricted Free Agents:
Olin Kreutz
Anthony Adams
Daniel Manning
Pisa Tinoisamoa
Nick Roach
Corey Graham
Brad Maynard
Desmond Clark
Brian Iwuh
Rashied Davis
Garett Wolfe
Rod Wilson
Josh Bullocks
Todd Collins
Restricted:
Caleb Hanie
Devin Aromashadu
Would like to see the bolded back. The rest can be replaced by draft picks, FA, and/or practice squad fodder. Aromashadu must really have done something to tick off mgmt. I'm not sure he'll be back next year.

I agree, except for Kreutz. He has been getting thrown into the backfield for the last 3 seasons.

Re: Bears sign Toeaina, Mannelly to contract extensions
Kreutz is still the leader of the offense (non QB) and we have 0 other centers currently on the team. I agree that he is no longer a pro bowler and is declining and that the center position definately needs to be addressed. It might be a bit too risky not to bring him back for at least 1 more year until we can bring another guy along seeing as though we're likely to turn over 2-3 guys on the o-line not counting Kreutz. I thought Beekman was the guy who'd replace Kreutz next year but I guess he wasn't.

A lot of the FA are special teams guys, I think its very important to bring them back. Bears have always been among the best special teams units under Smith for a reason, let's keep it that way. And I don't know Dave Toub's contract status, but he deserves a fat extension.

Re: Bears sign Toeaina, Mannelly to contract extensions
We need Pisa and Roach back badly, but Cliff Levingston thinks we may only get one of them. Both could be in line for some substantial money from another team, especially Roach. We need Adams, Maynard and Manning back as well.
If we draft a top center in the first round, Cliff Levingston wouldn't have a problem letting Kreutz go; he's done.

Re: Bears sign Toeaina, Mannelly to contract extensions
my priorties would be Manning, Graham, Maynard, Davis, Hanie
then focus on Adams, Roach, Kreutz (still has some left and great toughness and leadership)
