Just noticing this now - awesome. It'd be nice, now, to get something for Barnett. I think Nick seems like a cool guy and I like his enthusiasm for the Packers etc., but I like the combo we have going with Bishop and Hawk. And both of those guys are younger, too. Restructure Hawk (and pay him a lot less $$), maybe luck-out and Walden will be legit? Linebacking core would be looking pretty damn fine.

I still don't believe totally in Bishop... but I guess I am happy about this...

You're definitely in the minority.

Good signing, but Barnett was better at getting to the edge. Our rush defense's relative struggles are partially related to this.

I think that has more to do with starting Zombo/Walden at OLB but I could be wrong.

This has been driving me crazy all day:

Is this the same Bishop from like four or five years ago who always hit people hard when he'd hit them, but couldn't get into place all the best and was used as a wrecking ball on special teams? Or was that another Bishop?

It's the same Bishop..the one who would shine in the preseason, but not play well in the small amount of time he played on the D during the regular season

In no way shape or form is the Packers defense better with Barnett on the field over Bishop.

I also agree with Marley,Barnett is the poster boy for a guy who will celebrate a simple play when his team is down 14.Add that to the fact Barnett is just not that good a player and he's allergic to making big plays.

Bishop has a knack for making the big play.

Nobody really knows for sure if we have anything in Walden, Brad Jones, or Zombo, but nobody can argue that Ted has given this team a LOT more depth in the front 7 than anybody gave him credit for. Most teams would be dead in the water with how many injuries we've sustained up front.

I can't think of another team in the entire league that could absorb the injuries we have and still make the playoffs.

From the Patriots, take away:
RB-Green Ellis--- Grant
TE-Gronkowski/Hernandez--- Finley
SS-Meriweather--- Burnett
ILB-Brandon Spikes--- Barnett
Banta Cain--- Brad Jones
Guyton--- Chillar
DL- Gerard Warren--- Jenkins

Not saying those guys style of play are similar, but the guys they would be playing right now with those guys out, would not be pretty.

Specifics of the deal:

Bishop's deal: Bishop's contract actually was worth $18 million over four years, not $19 million as initially reported.

It includes $5 million in guaranteed money and features base salaries of $1.188 million in 2011, $2.826 million in '12, $3.464 million in '13 and $3.522 million in '14. There's another $2 million in roster and workout bonuses.

"I think I was struggling pretty much my whole career here, you know?" said Bishop, who had a hard time getting on the field until Nick Barnett got hurt. "Things work in mysterious ways. I'm just fortunate."
