Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
First of all, Nash will not come here as he will join a contender. He wouldn't waste his remaining years participating in the rebuilding process.
Second, we really have no use for him since we are not competing at the moment. What we need are young guard prospects to develop, hand in hand with our bigs.

Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
That type of thinking is exactly what is wrong with the Troy deal.
We need to STOP these fantasies about older vet players magically training the bad news bears into winners.
Because of the cap structure int he NBA...because of NBA drafts where the elite talent are not found in the top 5 rounds of a draft or in the top 50 players but in the top 5 picks....you need to build a team with a long term focus in mind. Not year to year.
High paid ready to win talent at the end of their career doesnt fit a group of prospects. Get coaches to tech...get players and contracts that fit the direction..then....HAVE PATIENCE and watch it grow.

Haha..get 'em E. That's exactly what I thought when I saw this. Justifying acquiring Steve Nash simply upon the basis of "he makes our big better" is not a good model. Considering that we're in the rebuilding mode, we need to at least explain why acquiring Nash is ideal for the franchise in the short term and long term. We'd just watch another superstar grow old before our eyes in a system that you actually should play defense in especially in our division.

I figured by the title that the responses would look like this.. but in his defense, it did work for Amare, Joe Johnson, Diaw and others.. just saying.

Amare was averaging 20 before he got to play with Nash. Joe Johnson flourished when he became the man in Atlanta and Boris Diaw flourished because of the system. I remember diaw played better when Nash was off the floor/DNP and racked up a couple of triple doubles. Not to take anything from Nash, but his effect on players is overrated.

Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
There's no need for Nash. We are rebuilding and thats why we've been losing. Yes, the Suns are better than us right now but in the long run we will be a much better team. I would rather have us right now than a Suns team full of old veterans. They are not going anywhere and we're not going anywhere so we need to be patient, keep piling up draft picks and not do anything (like trading for Nash) that is going to be more detrimental to our teams future.

The Nets signed Troy Murphy to mentor the young players? I find that a little hard to believe. And let me ask you this, since everyone knows how I think pretty much by now, exactly whos progression would acquiring Nash hinder? Harris? Im sorry but Harris is not the answer at PG if we want to be an elite team. Ben Uzoh? Enough said. Elite players are only found in the first 5 picks?? Please man, how do you explain Tony Parker? Carlos Boozer? Reggie Miller? Im sure theres alot more but those are the only ones I can think of right now. Im not here to say yeah lets get Nash, Im all for it, we need this guy asap. Im just trying to get you to see the other side of the spectrum.

Alright you know what forget what I said just now because in order to even land him in a trade would require a lot of pieces and we would just let him walk when his contract is up anyway.

Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
Yeah there is no way Nash wants to come here and we should not be looking in this direction anyway. We need to stay the coarse, keep rebuilding. It's only been two years since we've started this process going on three. We have set up for the future so now lets let it unfold, lets not give it all away.
We have a ton of picks and cap and our two building blocks are 22 and 19. We need to build around them so when they reach there primes we can have a winning squad. Guys like Nash are the complete opposite of what we want right now.
If we somehow steal Melo (which I still can't say I'm behind) then maybe we start looking at older pieces like Nash and other available upgrades (Iggy, Wallace, Jackson, Jamison, Mayo) and go for it all, but until that happens we need to stick to the youth movement, it'll come around eventually.
Let's get the right pieces in place and have the assets to get CP3 come next trade deadline. Forget Melo, CP3 can be the second coming of Kidd.

Troy Murphy was brought in to teach Derrick Favors a thing or two about defense, rebounding, shotblocking and ruggedness in the NBA.

Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
Agreed.
Nash coming here is far fetched, but atleast go after someone that can play the POINT. I cant stand Harris as a PG. He is moving towards Starbury status. 20+pts and 8asts for what.
After the first 3 years of playing with the Nets after being traded from another team, who would you rather
Stephon Marbury(26-56) or Devin Harris(12-70)?

Devin Harris, he guarantees us a top 5 pick each and every year.

Re: Can we trade for Nash ?
I'd rather send Harris to PHX for Nash then to CLE for nothing in the Melo trade that has been reported. He's got 2 years left on his contract so he's expiring when Paul might become available.
