At any rate, it would be a huge gamble that I would not undertake unless I knew for certain that Melo is obtainable. Basically, I'd wait unit the offseason before committing to any of this. It would still work then because NJ has the cap room to absorb the salary differential in a Lewis+Wall for Harris swap.
But assuming this all took place, and we obtained Melo via a straight up signing rather than a trade, our roster would look like this:
PG Harris/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Melo/lotto pick
PF Favors/Booker
C McGee/Blatche
That's a damn good team - an elite team if McGee ever reaches his potential as a rich man's Tyson Chandler. The only real weakness is outside shooting. I'm not thrilled with Harris, Favors and McGee together when none of them have an outside shot. We might be better off starting Hinrich.
This pipe dream is almost as good as my pipe dream of signing Howard in 2012.
PG Wall/Hinrich
SG Young/Hinrich
SF Lewis/lotto pick
PF Blatche/Booker
C Howard/Seraphin
But I thought when I keep bringing up Melo's name in the past it was always shot down as not worth talking about because " He isn't coming here "
What part of "pipe dream" did you not understand?
