If we got Bibby, would we have enough time to spin him off for an expiring before the trade deadline? How long would he have to stay here?

Anyone see themselves cheering for the Hawks the rest of the year if they get Jose?

possibly - but i'm not sure. atlanta's offense runs through joe + jamal when it matters. bibby works b/c he can just spot up shoot. is jose's shot back to the point where he can be effective being a spot up shooter down the stretch of games? i don't know.

What's so horrid about it? Either you don't know how much his contract is worth or you don't watch Amir play, so which is it?

But Atlanta apparently really wants a 5, and as much as I like Dorsey he's not exactly a talent you'd go out of your way to trade for. Maybe Amir? He's not a 5, really, and can't stay on the court but he's got great numbers. Maybe Williams coming back instead of ZP? That's doubtful though, too much action for a playoff team like Atlanta.

I'm always amazed at how people never look out beyond the moment in assessing trades. Atlanta has three problems if it wants to sustain success. GMs tend to think like that. I they are unlikely to compete for the East title this year, and Atlanta is a couple of moves away from being in the championship discussion, you make sequential moves in that direction expecting to reach it in a year or two while keeping fan hopes up in the short term.

Right now, Atlanta needs a veteran point guard, because Teague isn't ready to start, it needs to re-sign Crawford this summer or replace his scoring on the cheap, and it has to dump salary because Joe Johnson's contract ate Manhattan and Horford's extension is about to kick in along with the big bucks already being paid to Josh Smith. If it does nothing more than extend Crawford, the Hawks will be well into the tax next year.

It stands to reason they would want a trade to either help them positively for this season, OR give them some juice while ridding them of 2011-12 salary.

I won't take for gospel Little Ozzy's assumptions or that this deal is centered around getting a 5 for ATL unless they plan to trade Josh Smith and move Horford to the 4.

They are already within spitting distance of the tax line. They would probably do a deal like Bibby+Marvin Williams for Jose+Wright. That would save them a few miillion next year, keep them out of the tax this year, rejuvenate their point guard situation. A variation on the same deal would be Bibby+Marvin+Powell for Jose+Kleiza. If Atlanta intends to move Josh Smith, then substitute Amir for Wright or Kleiza in the aforementioned scenarios because they can score some salary relief in how they structure a deal with another team for Smith. You can get wilder and weirder if you assume cap/financial relief is the main goal because then you can talk in terms of Calderon+Amir+Weems ($17 million next year) for Bibby+Marvin+Josh Smith ($26 million next year). That's probably too much of a talent sacrifice for ATL, but you get my drift. You have to understand their objectives, and not limit your horizons.

Calderon + Klezia

For

Williams + Bibby

I'd do that. Don't want Zaza at all.

I'd prefer to keep Stew and give Monte Morris
I'd really prefer to keep Morris and Stew and give the great Killian Hayes and 2nd round picks

Jose to the Hawks made more sense to me at the start of the season, but Bibby and him have been fairly equal. You would think the big would have to be Zaza if a big was coming our way. I'd definitely break Jose's deal into two smaller parts. Gives us more trade options with pieces that should be easier to move. Kings might even like Bibby for their cap space if you don't want salary and don't Barbosa playing more point THIS year

Although I can't be home for most games, I've watched pretty much 80% of the games in its entirety on that PVR.

Amir WILL NOT be worth $7MILL in 4 years

Agreed.

There are some absolute morons on here that try to spin anything they can possibly come up with as a negative towards BC. 90% of the crap they spew is fabricated without an ounce of legitimacy to it.

In the end they look and sound like idiots.

Well, good thing he's only guaranteed for $5 mil in his last year.

You do not deserve an intelligent answer Duffman. If there was no fouling out, Amir would average more fouls than rebounds. I like his grit, I like athleticism no doubt, but he is NOT worth the money at his current 9/6 per game. my opinion. You don't like it, MOVE ON

ZING!

Paying 5 million for no one to play for the Raptors hardly seems like a good idea.

Regardless, Amir WILL be worth 7MILL in 4 years.

At 5-6 million dollars, which is what he's guaranteed. He's totally worth that amount of money.

And perhaps you should research something before you start talking. Might be a thought. I dunno.
