that adds more salary. If they add a Marvin/Klezia swap then fine.

I don't think they mind adding their protected 1st. They might not like to add salary next year when they are trying to resign their players.

even with a 1st. So what. Its going to be in the 20's and this is a weak draft.

It doesn't add much, especially if you keep in mind BC would probably be looking to spend $1-2 mill on a stop gap big for the bench. Then it doesn't really add anything. And Bibby as a $6 mill expiring should be pretty easy to give away as opposed to Jose with $18 mill more on contract - if you really wanted the cap space this summer. It's definitely not a homerun deal, but it would give us a lot more trade flexibility instead of just keeping one of the harder Raptors to move.

^^ I'd try to make it Jose+Barbosa+Kleiza for Marvin+Crawford+Bibby. Hawks get almost identical production from Barbosa+Kleiza, and their PG upgrade in Jose (I believe they save about 1.7 million instantly as well). We open up capspace for this summer, get a better defensive fit in Marvin and pave the way for Bayless (or whichever other young PG we end up with) to get more playing time. Hopefully we could also deal Bibby/Crawford in follow-up deals that would continue our rebuilding efforts.

I think just making it Bibby+Zaza for Jose is bailing Atlanta out, we're giving up the youngest and best player in the deal and we aren't opening up any capspace.

Do not sign me up. Who is going to create their own offense? Horford would be awesome beside Bargs, but w/o Bargs he would be a good defensive centre that needs an offensive PF to play off. Would that be Davis? Or Amir? Or Joey? Or Reggie? I like his game, but losing Bargs for him is illogical.

First off all Bargnani can't create his own shot, and if you believe he can than you are dillusional. Give Derozen 20 shots a game and he will put up +20ppg a game, or better you can find 20ppg player much easier than a big man who can defend and score downlow like Al Horford. But I don't think Atlanta is stupid enough or desperate enough to trade one of the best defensive bigs in the league. A front court with Al horfort+ Amir/davis would instantly make us one of the best rebounding and defensive front courts in the league. That alone would make us much better team going forward.

This may have already been covered, but with regards to both the Raptors and the Hawks having dropped a player today, apparently it has to do with teams being allowed to sign players to 10 day contracts:

Ryan Wolstat - Toronto Sun Courtside Blog
Starting today (Wednesday), NBA teams can sign players to 10-day contracts.

That’s why there was a rush to waive end-of-bench types on Tuesday and Wednesday (including the Raptors who cut little-used forward Ronald Dupree).

With point guards Jose Calderon and Jerryd Bayless gamely playing through considerable pain, the need for a 3rd/emergency point guard on the roster is glaring.

Thought I may as well mention it.

Good to see Calderon raising his trade value. With 20/17, we should be able to get CP3 back in return. :D

Any team scouting Jose tonight would be drooling. Sure, the Cavs suck, but surround Jose with better players than he has been working with and he'd have a significant impact. Looking at the Lakers with their lame backcourt keeps getting me thinking of deals with LA for Jose and Amir.

Did a poster in this thread really dismiss the idea of trading Jose and Bargs for Bibby and Horford ?

Heck ... gimme Teague and Horford, I take It and run.

^^I'd much rather take Teague and Horford than Bibby and Hofford so...that doesn't make much sense imho.

edit: although i suppose Bibby may have good trade value to playoff teams

you know you're really bad when you got Josh freaking Powell taking minutes away from you

Uhh..... this would of been true about a month ago but take it from a Hawks fan. Josh Powell hardly ever gets in the game anymore so much where most of us were questioning whether he was injured.

Kevin Willis wrote:Since I like both teams I'm hoping both sides benefit and I'm not sure if Calderon is that much of an upgrade over Bibby. But with Josh Smith and Horford around - Atlanta can easily mask Jose's defensive deficiency and he would facilitate better than Bibby in getting ppl involved. Bibby is still a solid scorer though - not a huge difference.

For Raptors, Bibby is like an old Bayless. Scorer but not a distributor. Why have two PGs like that on the same squad? I would rather have Calderon who would at least set-up a Bargs or a Derozan or a Davis. Meh.

Totally agree with this, even though i think Bayless attacks the lane more and Bibby is an excellent 3 point shooter.

Mike Bibby is a shadow of his former self. He does one thing well now and that's shooting threes.

The Raptors would save -- count it, 4 million dollars, and that's in 2 years.

Not a big fan of it, unlike the Jack trade, we also got a decent young player with some potential as well. Saving 4 mil in 2 years isn't that appealing. Plus Bibby is worse than Calderon in pretty much every aspect, and that includes his horrendous defense.

Bibby is an exceptionally better shooter than Calderon in every aspect.

That quote makes me think that ATL is far off better keeping bibby then cause he can at least shoot. WTF was i thinking??

I wouldnt say that hes exceptionally better. Bibby is shooting it better this year but Calderon has a higher career TS% and hes had the rare 40-50-90 line for a season too.

Bibby is comparable to Calderon on the defensive end... in that, he's absolutely terrible. We would be getting hosed on any trade involving a Bibby/Calderon swap that doesn't net us something more from Atlanta.
